The Tax Working Group’s new tax package includes a Capital Gains Tax among seven other possible taxes. We say no to new taxes on hard-working New Zealanders.

The Govt’s confirmed it’s looking unlikely it'll keep Labour’s campaign promise of building light rail in Auckland within 4 years. We planned to adapt existing routes and set up a rapid bus network. They scrapped that—now their promise has fallen through.

You can see how few houses have been built under KiwiBuild here:

Labour promised to build 10,000 houses in the first year of its flagship housing programme. Like many of its policies, KiwiBuild has failed to deliver. If there’s one thing we’ve learned with this Government, it’s don’t believe the hype.

Shambles in Finance & Expenditure Committee this morning. Due to start at 8.00am, members were there but Government MPs weren’t. No quorum and meeting collapsed meaning no FEC at all today.

This Government is continuing to drive up the cost of living. Median rents have climbed another $10 a week in the past month alone—that’s $40 more that renters are being forced to pay every week because of this Government’s poorly thought out policies.

Incredibly concerning events at the top of the South Island. My thoughts are with those affected and with the emergency crews doing such a great job. Please listen to the emergency services and stay safe

The Provincial Growth Fund was meant to help regional New Zealand grow, but so far the slush fund has wasted millions of your taxpayer dollars to make a total of 54 jobs. Just like KiwiBuild, it's yet another Government scheme turned miserable failure.

Going into the next election, Kiwis deserve a clear choice. National will provide it. Here are some of our commitments our leader outlined in his State of the Nation speech yesterday.

When we're in Government we'll adjust your income taxes every three years to keep them in line with the cost of living—so you'll be hundreds of dollars better off each year. Our leader Simon Bridges breaks it down for you in this video!

A family with two earners, eg. one earning $80,000 and the other $40,000, would be $600 a year better off after the first adjustment, about $1,300 a year better off after the second, and $1,900 a year better off by the third.

What do these changes mean for you? Assuming inflation of 2%, someone on the average wage would be $430 a year better off after the first adjustment, $900 a year better off after the second, and $1400 a year better off after the third.

Kiwis shouldn’t pay more tax every year when their income isn’t keeping up with the rising cost of living. It’s not fair. It’s not right. In our first term we’ll amend the Income Tax Act to ensure income taxes are adjusted every three years in line with the cost of living.

A strong economy is the foundation for improving living standards, creating jobs, raising incomes, and protecting our environment. New Zealanders who work hard and contribute shouldn’t be taxed more than an effective and efficient Govt actually needs.

Kiwis have always trusted National with managing the economy. You know we’ll be careful with your money. I want you to know you can trust us to care for our environment as well. We’ll focus on cleaner water, protecting our fisheries, and on our native species and iconic places.
