Certainly the Twins could re-engage with the Giants on Madison Bumgarner. There is need for Minnesota, and the Giants will move when a deal is right. Presently, however, there isn’t any traction.

While the San Francisco Giants’ interest in dealing Madison Bumgarner remains clear, the Minnesota Twins haven’t engaged with them in high-level talks in recent weeks, a source with knowledge of discussions tells ESPN. Giants reliever Will Smith is on the Twins’ radar as of now.

MLB has announced the 80-game suspension of Oakland right-hander Frankie Montas. While sources said he made a compelling argument the banned substance he took was not to enhance pitching performance, Montas accepted the suspension without appealing it.

That was upward of a quarter century ago. I’m not saying anyone is above doing that, by any means. But the business of baseball has changed significantly. To me, this is the biggest indication yet that the Rays simply don’t believe the area can support a full-time team.

Good on the Nationals. The way their stadium is constructed, the new netting is practically as good as foul pole-to-foul pole. The White Sox ... the Nationals ... the Rangers' new stadium ... the Tigers (who are one section from the foul poles). Let's make it 30 for 30.

The Chicago White Sox are extending protective netting all the way to the foul poles, as reported. One down, 29 to go. Your move, every other team. Go ahead and be the one that isn't prioritizing fan safety.

In addition, ESPN has learned that David Ortiz has been able to eat "soft foods," and has been in touch with loved ones, including former teammates, over the phone. His visits are still limited to close family and friends.
