Not only does America need a wealth tax, it cannot afford not to have one. Moreover, a simple wealth tax is eminently enforceable. Good & important thread (same applies to Britain).

As you know, there’s no provision in the US constitution for secession. Could trigger military response. UK far easier to break up as it’s four nations.

So far the United Kingston, as Ivanka would put it, is marginally ahead because California is not yet threatening to secede from the union.

UK's break up is in sight. Trump calls Boris to congratulate him after Boris tells Macron & Merkel that the Irish backstop must go. Ireland's Taoiseach warns of the break up of the union. This will only get uglier. We're governed by the worst of people.

Jacob Rees Mogg, "The Rt Hon member for the 18th C" (& Boris-appointed Leader of the Commons) mandates imperial measurements, & instructs staff to use "Esq." after non-titled names...Bans words such as "got" and "very". I got very pissed off reading this.

Absolutely correct by and it's probably irreversible. We have no nationally unifying figures so our divisions will only get worse, leading nowhere good.

Trump met Nigel Farage this week and urged him to join forces with Boris Johnson. "Trump wants to see a realignment of British politics," Farage said. Am still digesting fact that US president is throwing gasoline on the UK and is waving a lighted match

"We wanted clean energy; we got cryptocurrencies that use as much electricity as Argentina. We wanted sustainable transport, instead we got millions of car-hire drivers." 's on how Silicon Valley's vaunting ambition ignores global warming

It’s surprising that saving 15 minutes on three hours for one train each way a day is even news. 🙄 🚂

It's fascinating to watch this little burble of Twitter outrage. Weary does not mean feeble. Old does not mean ineffectual. Old age doesn't have a negative connotation, to me. But it definitely seems to, for others? Fascinating.

This morning, the Department of Justice announced they would resume capital punishment. Let me be clear: capital punishment is immoral and deeply flawed. Too many innocent people have been put to death. We need a national moratorium on the death penalty, not a resurrection.
