Dr Eric Levi
ENT Head & Neck Surgeon. Collector of pocket squares & fountain pens. Wearer of odd socks before it was a thing. My personal thoughts, no one else's.

Thank you so much for your very true-for-me description of what my diagnosis of in upper gums & under top lip would mean in terms of No risk factors for me... still had the brutal surgery: 11hrs, “leg parts now in mouth”. Doing well.

There was a difficult Anaesthesia challenge in my operating theatre. A couple of anaesthetists were involved.

⁩ I think this message would be applicable to most hospitals across Aus and NZ right now. All are stretched, all have exhausted staff. Community conversations are needed... our hospitals may not be able to deliver what you expect or want

For those who did not get on to your desired training positions, I’m sorry. The road is long and the competition is tough. Don’t lose sight of the big picture. DM or email me if you feel you need to talk to someone. I would love to be of support.

It really is tough. I don’t control the number of training positions and these numbers are a complex interplay of various jurisdictions. It took me a few years of trying & when I got on, only 12 ENT training positions were available in the whole of Australia. I’m sorry.

Exactly. ENT. Cutthroat specialty that goes for the jugular a Head & Neck above the others. Although otorhinolaryngology is a bit of a tongue twister. Hear hear.

ENT is still Head & Neck above cardiac or breast though...

“I have been diagnosed with vertigo.” Well actually, vertigo is the symptom, not the diagnosis. It’s like being diagnosed with a headache. There are multiple causes of vertigo (BPPV, vestibular migraine, Menierre’s etc). Vertigo is not quite a diagnosis.

In the ear and skull base, yes. We also have big knives for the throat. It’s a cutthroat specialty afterall.
