I think the point is that coming in to change institutions in a democratic country is inherently fraught. For one thing, we don't bear the consequences of getting it wrong. Not that I advocate business as usual, but the approach can't be cavalier (e.g., "any change is good")

Caroline Lucas says at that the UK is off track to meet its long term climate targets. This is correct. The found last year that the UK was not on track to meet its target reduction in carbon emission levels by 2027 or 2032.

That line on democratic country has been trotted out for years re:Nigeria & others. The simple fact is that corruption is rife, so the most practical and impactful route is for oil companies to do it -- regardless of how it might dent their precious bottom line

Again agree. But though we don't advocate divestment, investors cutting down portfolios & shifting capital elsewhere can pressure. The divestment movement has spurred $8 trl under management to commit to divest in some form. Certainly huge pressure as you know
