Let me put it this way: Even if J.J. Watt didn't play in 2018 and ultimately retired before the season, he's still a HOF to me. Four of the greatest seasons from a defensive player and arguably the greatest four-year stretch from a defensive player ever.

The sheer dominance Donald has displayed as an interior lineman is unprecedented. No one has had the peak level of play as a DT he's put together.
On the other hand, Watt's versatility as a pass rusher raised the bar for what an edge defender could do and put it out of reach.

Three DPOY awards, five time First Team All Pro, first player to have multiple seasons of 20+ sacks, MVP candidate in 2014, most QB hits ever. The NFL is on crack if he isn't a first ballot HOF.
I feel like he's a lock, but I don't completely trust the committee.
