Looked to this week for inspiration during my first ride in the centrifuge. This training familiarizes us with the launch and landing profile of the , max ~ 3.5 g during launch and ~4.5 g during landing. Check out my Insta story for more detail!

I’m standing on a force plate to quantify the forces I impart, while provoking my neurovestibular system by closing eyes, head movements, and motion of the plate. Our neurovestibular systems are critical to how we sense motion and balance & are profoundly affected by microgravity

How do you lift weights in weightlessness? engineers designed this novel system called the ARED which uses vacuum tubes to generate load. It can be configured to allow > 20 different exercises. I’m training on the ground version to ensure I’m ready to lift!

Exercise is vital to keeping healthy. Without the constant loading provided by gravity, bones start leaching calcium and muscles begin to atrophy. I’m fit-checking the harness and bungee system which pulls us onto the treadmill

We can’t do physiological experiments w/o samples, this week I collected urine, saliva, blood & more. These experiments teach us about immune function in space and are critical for extending our stays. Tables have turned as I’m now the subject instead of the experimenter!

In the “Food physiology” experiment I’ll eat many newer food lab items, geared toward keeping us healthy on-orbit (more veggies & fish for Omega-3 etc). This week I weighed and documented everything I ate/drank to help the scientists assess my baseline

Strolling to the simulator with commander . We undergo numerous simulations of all phases of launch, rendezvous, docking, and landing during our training, sometimes wearing our blue flight suits and other times wearing the pressure suit.
