Fares

No matter which type of reduced fare card you have, the price you'll pay for rides is the same.

Travel on all local bus routes, SL4 and SL5. Includes 1 free transfer to another Local Bus, SL4, or SL5 within 2 hours of your original ride.

  • Transfer to subway: $0.25
  • Transfer to Inner Express Bus: $1.65
  • Transfer to Outer Express Bus: $2.65

Please note, reduced fares are not available for monthly Express Bus, Commuter Rail, or ferry passes. Customers may purchase 10-ride tickets for the commuter rail and ferry at the discounted rate.

Customers Eligible for Reduced Fares

Seniors

Seniors 65 and older pay reduced fares with a Senior CharlieCard.
People with Disabilities

People with disabilities pay reduced fares with a Transportation Access Pass (TAP) card.
Middle and High School Students

Students at participating schools pay reduced fares with a Student CharlieCard (S-Card) or a school-purchased pass card (M7 Card).
Young Adults

Young adults who are low income, not in middle or high school, and live in participating cities pay reduced fares with a Youth Pass.

Customers Who Ride for Free

People Who Are Blind or Have Low Vision

People who are blind or have low vision (and a guide) can use all MBTA services for free with a Blind Access CharlieCard.
Other Customers Who Ride for Free

Children, active-duty military personnel, police officers, firefighters, and certain public officials can ride the T for free.
