About
“The Mine Song” is a song sung by the character Stingy in the Icelandic children’s television show LazyTown, which was broadcast on Nickelodeon. Online, the song has inspired a spontaneous surge of parodies, mashups, and Word Replacement Remixes through Soundcloud and YouTube.
Origin
On June 7, 2005, the 16th episode of the then long-running children’s television show LazyTown, Dear Diary aired. “The Mine Song” is sung by the character Stingy at the beginning of the episode.[1]
Spread
Word replacement remixes started appearing in November of 2016 during the height of We Are Number One remixes. The first was posted to Youtube by MrMrMANGOHEAD on November 13th, 2016. The remix takes the song but replaces “Mine” with various other popular songs from LazyTown. As of December 20th, the video has over 369,000 views.
Following MrMrMANGOHEAD’s upload, dozens of remixes appeared in which “Mine” was replaced. One of the popular tropes of the videos was to mock that Stingy says “triagonal” instead of “triangular” when describing a sign.
