I made my first quilt more than 20 years ago. Much of the time since then has been spent making traditional quilts which served to hone my technical skills. These quilts proved to be the perfect creative outlet for a stay at home mom of four. I had my first quilt published in a national quilting magazine in 1995. Since then I have had more than 40 of my works published in various quilting magazines.
In recent years I have branched off from the traditional. and into art quilting. Rather than create my own version of what someone else has done, I am working toward using the techniques I have learned to produce something new. The creation of these pieces is a means to explore an idea and the quilt itself becomes the culmination of discovery. Many pieces are records of spiritual growth and revelation. Sometimes one idea cannot be completed in a single quilt and a series is born.
It is not my desire to tell a complete story but to allow the viewer to draw their own conclusions. I hope that my work causes the viewer to stop and ponder, to wonder a bit, to ask questions, to see something meaningful beyond the surface. I believe a truly beautiful piece of art will not only capture the gaze but will stir the spirit as well.
I still make MANY traditional quilts and have been heading back into that direction again lately. I also enjoy the funky modern quilts that have appeared nearly everywhere the last few years.
I guess you could say, I like it all!

welcome to blogging! I’m going to add you to my feed reader so I can come back when you’ve posted pictures.
One word on irons–I have a Sussman, a professional iron. These irons are very heavy and gravity fed, that is the water bot. is hung 3 ft. overhead. Mine is at least 12 yrs. old with no problems. The disadvantage is that that make s it stationary. It’s easy to clean. No spitting!

Hi, Katy – I saw from my blog stats that someone here had mentioned my name, so I thought I would say hello. I like what you’ve said above about using your knowledge and skills to move off in new directions. That’s what’s kept me afloat ever since I started quilting. I think we can safely call ourselves “conceptual artists,” don’t you?
Anyway, it’s very nice to meet you – nice blog, too!

Katy,
I just noticed on your blog roll that you have my old blogger link…
I switched over to WordPress last year – still call it My Creative Ramblings

Thanks Dale! I am changing it now!

Hi Katy, I love your confetti quilt and was wondering if it is an original with you. If so, could I have permission to use it and sell the quilt I make. Thanks

Hi Katy, You commented so nicely on my new blog, so I stopped by to say hi! Julie
I would like more about the sunflower quilt top is it full size or bigger
My second comment to you today, Katy. I started out years ago collecting antique quilts, which lead me to start quilting with the support of a good guild. I quickly decided that I was not challenged by following a pattern. So I just “did my own thing”, basically art quilts. I tried to express an idea and used whatever techniques that required, even free motion with metallic thread! That was in the 1980’s. After many life changes I am no longer able to hand stitch, but love color, so I am doing mostly Project Linus quilts for kids using lots of precuts and just having fun. I am a new blogger this year and hope you will check out Paula B Quilts. I will be following you on email.

Greetings Katy!
A while ago I posted your Log Cabin quilt photo into my Log Cabin board on Pinterest.
I had no clue that it would be seen by others.
Now I have to let you know that I’m getting notices often that your quilt has been posted
to other peoples boards.
Good for you!
An excellent photo and layout – congrats!
