Ross signed a reserve/future contract with the Chiefs on Tuesday, Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports reports. Ross was unable to make the Chiefs' 53-man roster at the end of training camp, but he stuck around on the practice squad. He did not record a catch in Week 9 and 10 when he was elevated to the active roster, and he was a healthy scratch for the AFC Championship Game against the Bills. Ross will be on the Chiefs' 90-man roster when the new league year begins March 12, which will give him an opportunity to participate in OTAs, minicamp and training camp in the hopes of earning a spot on the 53-man roster for the 2025 campaign.

Tyquan Thornton : Inks future deal with Kansas City

Thonton signed a reserve/future contract with the Chiefs on Tuesday, Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports reports. Thornton was waived by the Patriots in mid-November after a disappointing six-game stretch to start the 2024 season, during which he logged just four catches (on eight targets) for 47 yards. The 2022 second-round pick caught on with the Chiefs' practice squad Nov. 18, and while he wasn't elevated to the active roster for the rest of the regular season or postseason, Thornton will have an opportunity to work out with Kansas City during OTAs, minicamp and training camp.

Matthew Wright : Inks deal with Carolina

The Panthers signed Wright to a reserve/future contract Tuesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports. Wright spent time with the Chiefs, 49ers and Titans in 2024, converting on 15 of his 16 field-goal attempts and all six of his extra-point tries. With Eddy Pineiro set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, Wright's signing provides Carolina with another option at kicker if the team elects to not re-sign Pineiro for the 2025 season.

Jeremiah Pharms : Returning to New England

Pharms agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Patriots on Monday, Mike Kadlick of CLNSMedia.com reports. Pharms played in 16 regular-season contests with New England in 2024, tallying 33 tackles (16 solo), including 2.0 sacks. He saw his most action at the end of the campaign, logging at least 58 percent of the team's defensive snaps in each of his final three games. Pharms likely will continue to work in a rotational role for the Patriots next season.

Julius Wood : Eligible to participate in OTAs

The NFL temporarily lifted Wood's six-game suspension Monday, making him eligible to participate in offseason activities, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Wood was suspended for six games in early December due to a violation of the league's performance-enhancing substances policy. The rookie safety served most of the punishment by missing Tennessee's final five contests, but he'll need to sit out one more game before he's able to suit up again. Wood played mostly on special teams in his first NFL campaign, logging just five defensive snaps over nine contests.

Stewart had arguably his best game in more than three months, making the most of what ended up being a favorable matchup. Despite the mammoth victory, Stewart still logged just 15 minutes, somewhat disappointing given what could have been. Jalen Duren has been a pillar of consistency over the past month, limiting Stewart to a backup role only.

Marcus Sasser : Back in rotation Tuesday

Sasser supplied 14 points (5-5 FG, 4-4 3Pt) in 11 minutes during Tuesday's 132-92 win over the Bulls. Sasser moved back into the rotation, scoring double-digits for just the ninth time in 42 games. The addition of Dennis Schroder prior to the trade deadline resulted in Sasser sitting out the previous game. While it was good to see him back on the court, it is likely this was due to the fact the Pistons' lead exceeded 40 points at the half.

Simone Fontecchio : Grabs 10 boards in win

Fontecchio logged eight points (2-8 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-3 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal across 26 minutes during Tuesday's 132-92 win over Chicago. Fontecchio tallied double-digit rebounds for just the second time this season, taking advantage of a Bulls team that failed to show up. The Pistons took control early and were never troubled, allowing their second and third units to play meaningful minutes. Fontecchio typically plays minutes in the mid-teens, limiting his overall upside.

Kevin Durant : Passes scoring milestone in loss

Durant finished with 34 points (12-18 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 7-10 FT), three rebounds, three assists, five blocks and one steal across 43 minutes during Tuesday's 119-112 loss to Memphis. Durant's team-high 34 points helped him become just the eighth player in NBA history to score 30,000 points. Even at 36 years old, he continues to be one of the most efficient scorers in the league, posting 52.4/39.8/82.7 shooting splits in 2024-25. Durant also made a defensive impact against Memphis, recording a season-high five blocks.

Thomas Bryant : Productive outing in loss

Bryant racked up 18 points (8-12 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 1-1 FT), nine rebounds, four assists and one block across 32 minutes during Tuesday's 128-115 loss to the Knicks. It was a productive outing by Bryant, who continues to start at center for the Pacers while Myles Turner sits on the shelf with a neck injury. Through four games in Indiana's starting lineup this year, Bryant has been serviceable with averages of 15.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.5 blocks in 27.2 minutes while shooting 54.0 percent from the field. With Turner already ruled out for Wednesday's contest against Washington, Bryant will remain a solid streaming choice in fantasy leagues.

Spencer Horwitz: On mend from hand surgery

Horwitz said Wednesday that the surgery he underwent last week was to repair the extensor tendon in his right thumb, John Perrotto of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports. He's expected to face a recovery timeline of 6-to-8 weeks. The left-handed-hitting Horwitz's procedure was designed to address chronic symptoms with his wrist, but the surgery itself was actually performed on the thumb of his throwing hand. In any case, Horwitz's projected 6-to-8-week recovery timeline could keep him out of action for most or all of spring training and force him to open the season on the injured list. If Horwitz is shelved to begin the campaign, Pittsburgh could turn to Jared Triolo, Billy Cook or Bryan Reynolds to pick up starts at first base early on.

Alex Cobb: Out one month with hip inflammation

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Wednesday that Cobb will be set back for about a month due to right hip inflammation, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. Cobb's hip began bothering him as he was building up his offseason throwing program. He's been given a platelet-rich plasma injection and will be limited to rehab for a while. The veteran righty has some history with hip issues, although it was his left hip that he had surgery on last offseason. With Cobb likely to miss at least the first month of the season, there's an open spot in the Tigers' rotation. Casey Mize, Matt Manning, Kenta Maeda, Ty Madden, Brant Hurter and Keider Montero could all be in the mix to fill in.

Alek Thomas: Part of camp battle?

Thomas enters spring training listed second on Arizona's depth chart in center field. Jake McCarthy, who was in Thomas' shoes at the start of camp in 2024, is listed as the starting center fielder and deserves to be. Thomas suffered through an injury marred season and barely hit when healthy (.603 OPS). Meanwhile, McCarthy was a competent fill-in during the first half and eventually exploded in July/August (.878 OPS). The Diamondbacks don't lose much in the way of defense with McCarthy -- though Thomas is clearly the best outfield defender on the team -- and the former's bat has been an asset in addition to his work on the basepaths (74 steals from 2022 to 2024). Thomas hit the ball hard last year (46.8 hard-hit percentage) but a lot on the ground (60.8 groundball percentage); however, there's evidence that he was unlucky (.200 BABIP). If the 24-year-old shows improvement at the plate during spring training, that could force a decision for manager Torey Lovullo.

Ben Joyce: No longer expected to close

Joyce is unlikely to be the Angels' primary closer with the team's signing of Kenley Jansen (shoulder) on Monday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. The Angels and Jansen agreed on a one-year, $10 million contract Monday, which DiGiovanna notes will likely give Joyce "another year to grow into [the] closer role." It wouldn't make much sense for Los Angeles to have signed Jansen for any other reason than to serve as the team's primary closer, as he currently sits first among active players -- and fourth all-time -- with 447 regular-season saves. While Jansen may be nearing the end of his storied career, he showed he still has gas left in the tank with his performance for Boston last year, which included a 3.29 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 28.4 percent strikeout rate and 27 saves. It's still likely that Joyce will get an occasional save opportunity, per Sam Blum of The Athletic, but at least for one season it appears he will be an understudy to Jansen, which cuts down Joyce's fantasy appeal in most formats considerably.

La Sorsa was not present at spring training Tuesday due to an illness, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. La Sorsa, who is in camp as a non-roster invitee, is due back in a few days. The left-hander appeared in 16 games for the Nationals in 2024, posting a 4.58 ERA and 1.25 WHIP while giving up four home runs in 17.2 innings.
