Pros
- If you have a good manager, you will have nice work/life balance. - The people I worked with were smart and kind. - Launching new products is fun. - You get to work on projects that affect millions of customers. - Within lab126, promotions are very common because you have the opportunity to working on many new/interesting projects.
Cons
- Amazon is a big company with a culture that is not transparent and that does not promote or encourage employee wellbeing/happiness. - University recruiting is absolutely horrible. If you are thinking about accepting an offer, know that they will not honor the team/location preferences you have. They do not care if you are happy with where you are going. Seriously beware because I didn't think the reviews were true...

- Make sure people are joining a team they want to join from the start. If you put someone where they are not happy on day 0, why would they want to stay? - Perks are not worthless, employee happiness is priceless.

Pros
Fast paced, lots of different types of roles and businesses, easy to move between roles.
Cons
Lots of movement so a lot of reinventing the wheel, compensation isn't great as it is fixed base once you are in and everything after is just stock (which has to vest again).
Advice to Management
Improve the compensation model, which is used globally but based on something that is only competitive in a few markets.

Pros
I was originally hired as an SDET on the Fire TV team. From my first impressions, Amazon Lab126 seemed like a great company to work for. Throughout your career, you'll get to collaborate with diverse teams on highly successful products. I've also met many interesting people during my time at Amazon. The company social events are amazing too. In addition to the annual post-holiday celebration and the family picnic,...

However, one thing I quickly noticed was the company's toxic management and culture. For example, my first boss loved to micromanage and actually once told me I was being unprofessional simply because I spent a few minutes talking to another new hire. After the most recent reorganization, I was assigned to a manager with a non-technical background. Despite his limited experience, he constantly criticized my work and was...

Pros
Good benefits Better than average salary Well-known in the industry so looks good in the resume
Cons
Silo-ed structure Poor dev infrastructure Some products don't have good vision.
Advice to Management
It's too late to take any action now. It is impossible to change a 150000 people behemoth. So just focus on macro improvements.

Pros
- Get to work on cool innovative products, especially in the smart home space. It’s really cutting edge stuff and you see customers use it. - The culture here really depends on your team, in my case it’s good. Oncall isn’t crazy. - The gym onsite is pretty sweet.
Cons
- Commuter services could be better - A little too frugal. Kind of sad going to an event that provides snacks that are gone within 5 minutes.
Advice to Management
Be more generous to your employees. Pay them well for good work.
