New Door access products. by Active_Anteater7444 in Ubiquiti

[–]failsafe5000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a few notes about it:

The unit itself is HEAVY, it’s a solid steel box, so requires a good place to mount it.

It requires wall power, it cannot be powered with POE like the single door hubs.

Has a 10 port switch, with 8 of them POE, meaning if all 8 access panels are needed you can only have one reader per door, instead of two like you can on the single door hubs. It does allow for request to access buttons via 2 wire.

Am I crazy or is Xbox sitting on a goldmine with the idtech engine. by CzarTyr in xbox

They were pushing Frostbite hard, but in 2023 they backed off now letting studios use whatever engine they want to get the game made.

It appears though that the sports studios have gotten used to Frostbite enough that they are staying with it.

In some ways moving to Unreal is easier, while it does require the devs to learn (or relearn if they’ve used Unreal is past jobs), there is a much wider use base, resources, and documentation then using their own engine.

For smaller sized studios (compared to ones like Ubisoft or EA in terms of employee size) it’s easier to use an engine that someone else builds, as it allows them to focus on making the game, as they don’t have the man power to have entire studios just for building and maintaining in-house engines, or require devs to do double the job of making the game and engine at the same time.

New Intercom install with Viewers by AnilApplelink in Ubiquiti

[–]failsafe5000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Installed one at my work, and the pictures online for the intercom make it look normal sized, not huge like it is in person.

But it was one of the easiest installs of an intercom I’ve ever done.

iOS 18.2 RC - Discussion by epmuscle in iOSBeta

[–]failsafe5000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is there any updates to the delay on notifications with Apple Intelligence active? I’m on a 16PM (18.2 DB 4) and had to turn off AI as it was taking like 10 to 20 seconds for notifications to show up even for apps like Ring.

Delta Force by U74H in battlefield2042

[–]failsafe5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels more like COD's Ground War mode then Battlefield in terms of the movement, gun play, and over all feel.

The battle pass is absolutely atrocious.

Every game that has come out that says its going to be the next Battlefield, gets like 65% of the way there then it's just missing something after that. Like there is something DICE does, even in 2042, that just makes their games feel like they are a Battlefield game.

Why is the Draugr so hard to level?? by OliKenway in battlefield2042

Use this portal code:

ABSMJ9

It’s 128 conquest with bots on Breakaway (no modifiers so it offers full unlocks). Use a password to make sure only you are in there. You’ll spawn on the US side, and if you fly right to Russian spawn you can get quite a few kills when the AI initially spawns, and then u-turn and get more when they revive each other.

Just keep going from there, occasionally restart the map to get more kills.

Prices are all CAD. I’m looking for a cheap entry level setup. Just purchased plex pass and now looking for the NAS. Currently I have all of my 1080p movies and tv shows that I could ever want to watch taking up 2TB on a local HDD, so 8TB is good enough plus 2nd bay for future expansion. Thoughts? by poopycamel in PleX

You would do better by getting a Mac Mini to run Plex, and something like a QNAP TR-002 or TR-004, which are direct attach storage devices (USB-C cable). They offer RAID but are not a NAS. But with the Mac Mini (even a used M1 or M2 one) will do so much better with running Plex and allowing for transcodes when needed.

I would highly, and I mean HIGHLY either run RAID or at least have a backup of your stuff somewhere else.

I ordered the ENVR for my workplace, it's supposed to come with two power supplies, but mine arrived with only one and a cover over where the 2nd one goes. Sent them a message and within a day they had shipped out another power supply for it with next day shipping.

My Latest Setup by failsafe5000 in Ubiquiti

Rack shelf is not being bent from the Mac Mini and it has plenty of room to move around easily. The shelf above just has a 1/3 RU lip on the sides.

Raspberry Pi’s are labeled above, the Mac Mini is my Plex server (QNAPs are direct attach enclosures to the Mac Mini, looking to replace them eventually with the UNAS maybe), and the Minisforum MS-A1 next to the battery backup is my daily use Fedora KDE computer.

Seriously. I love the new M4 Mac Mini (replaced it from a M1 Mac Mini), and luckily the shelf above is higher but the new height is definitely going to make it hard to use it in most server racks if they are replacing an older Mac Mini.

How is Protect with ONVIF cameras? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]failsafe5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found ONVIF to be hit or miss with Protect. Maybe it’s my work’s network but I’ve noticed our Reolink cameras take a while for them to load in both the app and webpage, and there are times where the camera will just refuse to connect. I’ll then have to either reboot the camera or ENVR or remove and re-add the camera (though this is something I’ve had to do with Blue Iris as well).

I am slowly converting all of our cameras to Ubiquiti cameras, and while they do cost more, they work extremely well in Protect and picture wise are really good.

Quick question about Unifi Protect admin vs user by wobblydavid in Ubiquiti

https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500011491541-Granting-Access-to-UniFi-Roles-and-Permissions

This helps explain it best, but basically Users are those who need to access things like doors or phones but do not need any access to Unifi’s webpages, hence why no invite is sent out.

Halo Studios: New Name, New Engine, New Games, New Philosophy by Turbostrider27 in xbox

[–]failsafe5000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Havok is still used extensively in games, Helldivers 2, Astro Bot, Age of Mythology Retold are just a few newer games that use it. Nintendo uses it in pretty much all of their games, same with a lot of Sony’s first party studios.

I’d love to say that everyone should just buy a Fluke or a Trend Networks like this one that I use at work: https://a.co/d/8PIkghB

But I know the reality is that not everyone can spend $1k plus just for a network tester. So my suggestion (for those who can’t spend that much) would be something like the Klein VDV501-851, Trend Networks VDV II Basic or test one of the Chinese brand testers on Amazon that have like the color screen.
