20 Years On: Battlefield 2: Modern Combat Still Packs 24-Player Lobbies! by Sufficient_Notice_61 in Battlefield

I wish the game wasn't called BF2MC because it's nothing like BF2 on the PC. Everyone expects it to be a port because of the name. Clearly they did it for marketing reasons.

The scale of this game was very impressive for the time on console, which part of it disappointed you? What did you expect to see that wasn't there?

From what I have heard there are some annoying bits but there is a good game underneath it.

Yeah it was one lobby, we had 32 players at once that night which is pretty big for a PS2 game.

It can be emulated on PC and Xbox, so it's basically a cross platform game in 2025

I don't normally post rumours but I hope this is true. by Sufficient_Notice_61 in survivalhorror

I was thinking about this too, if they remade RE5 but it was actually a survival horror that would be pretty cool.

Thanks for the link to that article I will keep that for reference and also to check out some of the old games.
You say that in survival horror games you have a "low effectiveness in combat" But in RE4 and Dead Space you play as a character that is that is very effective in combat, Leon can roundhouse kick 5 enemies at once.

On your "making you unable to run" comment I just don't see how this element of the game is any different to say Gears of War where you can't run away from combat. The whole point in playing as a vulnerable character (my rule 6) is you are not strong enough to take on all of the enemies head on and you have to avoid some of them.

I am not limiting myself to a 30 year old game, check my list it isn't all fixed camera, zombie games as you claim.
Resident Evil 4 (Remake)
Fear the Spotlight
You Will Die Here Tonight
Alan Wake 2
Signalis
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Darkwood
White Day: A Labyrinth Named School
Alien: Isolation
None of these are fixed camera

I agree puzzles are not a must, it is just one element, using brain instead of brawn.
"You mentioned the feeling threatened" Can you show me where I said this? I can't find it in my rules.

RE4, RE5 and Dead Space have precision aiming, this is an action game attribute so I digress that having it is a disadvantage or makes it more like a survival horror.

I haven't played Doom 3 yet so I can't really comment but I will check it out.

I agree that games like:
Alan Wake
Alone in the Dark 2
Alone in the Dark 3
Doom 3
Eternal Darkness
Fear Effect

Should be referenced on the website somewhere even if there is a note beside them to say they are action leaning or psychological horror leaning etc I just don't know the best way to implement this yet. Not just from a visual point of view, I also mean practically I don't know how to handle it, I might need a separate database or table, it might take me a while to figure out the best way to add them.

I found that Eternal Darkness article if you are interested

My website doesn't even attempt to go further back than AitD 1992. I'm not even sure what 2D games would have influenced AitD, I know it was influenced by H. P. lovecraft in terms of the story but I don't know of any gameplay influences. It pioneered pre-rendered backgrounds with fixed camera angles so that wasn't influenced by anything it was new ground.

The only 3D survival horror to come before Resident Evil was Alone in the Dark, Doctor Hauzer and Ecstatica but none of them had the influence and lasting impact that Resident Evil had. I would argue Alone in the Dark is the most important 3D survival horror game because it started everything and Shinji mikami basically copied it but people barely know it existed compared to Resident Evil.

I agree with you, my list is not perfect (it might never be) but I hope to refine it with time.
Maybe the website should have "action leaning survival horror games" or something.
I don't think I am the arbiter for the survival horror genre, despite what some people on here have said about me. I just think some games are too close to the action genre to be considered survival horror.
I don't think as a community we will ever come to a consensus because some games are a grey area.

You lost me at RE6 being a survival horror. Which part of RE6 makes it "survival" other than the fact you can die just like every other action game? I wouldn't even call it a horror game.
