about Freddy & Petunia -and- Page 10 studio

Freddy & Petunia began as one of those proverbial “light bulb” moments.

I was nearly finished building another little cabinet (for another one of my mAny nieces & nephews and great nieces & nephews ~how I love being an Auntie!), when it hit me that “Maybe this could be a business!”

And with the encouragement of family and friends to “…go for it!” I started sketching ideas and designs for other cabinets swirling around in my head!

**So, let me first say– I can’t explain where this “vision” comes from.**

I’ve just always been incredibly visual, I can SEE beyond the current RaW state of something to the end of a finished project, and,

I can visually “empty” a junky space, and SEE IT totally finished!

When I find “things,” I tend to see parts instead of the whole–and how those parts can become something else! Which makes it really hard to walk away from all those odd, miscellaneous, & battered things that frequently prompt people to ask “What the heck are you going to do with that?”

Sometimes I tell them. They usually look at me totally confused, or like I’m crazy. . . !

I work, primarily, alone on the design, construction, and finish of each project.

And I’m usually on my own searching for the materials to work with. But I am lucky enough to have some really talented carpenters, and fabulously creative artists in my life to collaborate with when I need.

I laugh when family and friends watch for things, or direct me back to something they just saw somewhere and

“thought of [me]!”

It’s infectious!

Page 10 is my home studio–

It’s where I build all my little children’s cabinets and those Re-Purposed, One-of-a-Kind, crAzy furniture projects!

It’s one of my fAVorite places in the world~

~and where you’ll usually find me!

~With all my saws, and many tool chests and storage cabinets full of tools and flea market hardware, and stashes of furniture parts, and collection of vintage wall papers, and wAy more paints than anyone should have. . .and. . .and. . .you’ll just have to see it! ; D

I read that you recently made a quick trip to Atlanta and was wondering if you live close to Nashville at all. If so, I’d love to visit you sometime. I LOVE how you create new unique pieces out of odds and ends. Brilliant!

I can “see” too, Catherine! I know my ability comes from God; it is a gift from Him, un-earned and un-deserved, but present within me from my earliest memory. It delights me to read that you have received this blessing as well.
I am impressed with your carpentry skills and love your design sense! You’ve inspired me to dust off the power tools and get to work on some projects of my own. By the way, I also have what people call a photographic memory (to an extent!) and I’m wondering if you do too. I’ve run into other “visual” people that also have visual memory. This gift has been invaluable to me in my interior design career as I can usually remember color and small details pretty well. Well, blessings to you Catherine and many more years of creativity!

I just discovered your antique mall space in Appleton and fell in love with your work. I couldn’t stop thinking about one of the dressers you did and after 5 days of obsession went back to buy it, only to find someone else beat me to it. Lesson learned…your product moves fast and no wonder! I will be stalking the antique mall weekly!
