Key MEPs back Canada trade deal

The EU-Canada free trade agreement received backing from the European parliament's environment and public safety committee on Thursday. The support increases the chance it will enter into force later this year. The committee voted 40 to 24 in favour of the deal. In December, the employment committee rejected the agreement. The trade committee will also hold a vote in January before all 751 MEPs cast their ballot on the deal.
