De Gucht justifies EU allowance: 'That's the system'

Ex-commissioner Karel De Gucht (trade) confirmed to Belgian media on Thursday that he receives a transitional allowance from the EU commission. He said he saw nothing wrong with that. "That's the system," he said, adding that he did not understand why German newspaper Die Zeit wrote about which former commissioners still receive the fee, two years after the end of Barroso II. "This rule has existed for 50 years."
