Pro-Russian candidate leads Moldova presidential vote

Moldova's presidential election will go to a second round next month after Moscow-friendly socialist Igor Dodon won 48.5% of the vote in the first direct presidential election in decades on Sunday. His closest rival, pro-European candidate and an ex-World Bank economist, Maia Sandu, won 38.2%. Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe and suffers heavily from corruption.
