I am requesting that in the Asia template, Palestine should be designated as 'Asian observer states' or 'sovereign states' and separate from the 'states with limited recognition category', as its a UN observer and has a far more substantial percentage of recognition (70.5%), making it mostly recognized and de jure. A link to a DAB page

In Kuwait Army and List of armies by country, this template calls Army of Vietnam, which is a DAB page. It should call People's Army of Vietnam. Narky Blert (talk) 14:16, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

The link can be changed using |VI= |VN=People's Army of Vietnam. The template may as well be replaced with {{Military of Asia}} in those articles, though, for consistency with all other Asian army articles as well as to avoid redirects. SiBr₄ (talk) 16:15, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

@SiBr4: I have precisely no interest whatsoever in fixing obscure complex templates which create problems for DABfixers like me. I know how to fix the best part of 20 cute templates which create problems which are picked up by User:DPL bot. This template still calls that DAB page. Please, fix this problem. Your template, your problem. This is not the first time I have encountered a to me insoluble problem in a "Continent topic" template which has wasted my time. It is also not the first time I have received an answer which did not address the problems created by such a template.

There's no need for or even use in editing the template itself, as the big orange box at the top of this talk page points out. This is not a template about armies; it can link to any "X of country" articles and many other formats, so any problematic links should be fixed in the articles that use the template, like this. Edit request

The transcluded template {{i2c}} is a redirect to {{iso2country}}. Although the cost of a single redirect is trivial, in this case (and in the other "Continent topic" templates too) it occurs multiple times within a template that's itself transcluded on thousands of pages; this means that the redirect has to be followed many times whenever any of those thousands of pages is viewed. That adds up to a significant unnecessary overhead. I therefore suggest that the code is changed to invoke {{iso2country}} directly. (The same change has already been made to {{Europe topic}}).
