Koregaon is a census town[3] and headquarters for the surrounding Koregaon Taluka in the Satara subdivision of Satara district in the Indianstate of Maharashtra. It is situated on the Satara-Pandarpur road about 18 km east of Satara city, about 120 km from Pune and 267 km from Mumbai. The Koregaon railway station, situated on the Pune-Miraj line, is 2 kilometers outside the town. At a stones throw from the railway station is Koregaon Bus Station.
Dr. B.R.Ambedkar writes about his childhood experience of travelling from Satara to Koregaon, and the discrimination they suffered, in his autobiographical book, Waiting for a Visa (chapter 1).[4]
In Koregaon there is present Lord Shiva's temple, named Kedareshwar Mandir in Marathi. This place is large, and well known in all neighboring areas of Koregaon.
The main attraction is the Koregaon (Mini) Industrial Area developed on the Koregaon-Rahimatpur Road. One of the main businesses is the production of beans (called 'Wagha Ghevada' in Marathi and 'Rajma' in Hindi language) in Koregaon.
The best way to reach Koregaon is by Road.From Satara Take any bus going towards Pandharpur and it will drop you at Koregaon. No need to go to Main bus stand also,just stand by the Flyover and you can easily catch the bus. The alternate way is You may Board train Koyna Express train number 11029.This train runs daily between Mumbai CST to Kolhapur.It departs from Mumbai CST at 08:40 and arrives at Koregaon station at 16:12. Nearby airports are Karad and Kolhapur.
NANDGIRI (Dhumalwadi) is a famous tourist place for its fort "Kalyangad" it has three caves with water of at least 120m long where are the idols of lord Dattatreya & jain temple of 'Parshvanatha'. NIGDI village is well known for brinjals plantations.Also this village is known for its deity RANGANATH swami. Chandan Vandan (Banawadi) is a famous tourist place for its fort in Koregaon Taluka.
