The public health crisis led to some village residents taking showers at the Burrillville hockey rink or jumping in Echo Lake to bathe. The problem was caused by leaking underground fuel tanks at a Mobil gas station. Residents likely drank and bathed in tainted water for months before finding out it was harmful to their health.
