Friday evening, Saturday morning TLMs set at Annandale St. Michael

In addition to Masses already celebrated earlier in the week, the Traditional Latin Mass (Extraordinary Form) will be offered at 6:30 pm on Friday evening and at 7:00 am on Saturday morning of this week at St. Michael Church, 7401 St. Michael’s Lane, Annandale, by parochial vicar Rev. Fr. Richard Carr.

A votive Mass of the Sacred Heart with commemoration of the Holy Maccabees will be celebrated on Friday, August 1. On Saturday, August 2, the Mass of the feast of St. Alphonsus Liguori will be offered.

These Masses have been added to our seven-day schedule.

Annandale St. Michael schedules 3 weekday TLMs

The Traditional Latin Mass (Extraordinary Form) will be offered at 7:15 am on Tuesday and Thursday morning and at 7:00 am on Saturday morning of this week at St. Michael Church, 7401 St. Michael’s Lane, Annandale, by parochial vicar Rev. Fr. Richard Carr.

On Tuesday, July 29, the Feast of St. Martha will be celebrated. The Mass of Thursday, July 31, will be that of the feast of St. Ignatius Loyola.  St. Alphonsus Liguori’s feast will be celebrated on Saturday, August 2.

Please note that the start time of Masses celebrated on weekdays other than Saturday has been moved from 7:00 am to 7:15 am.  Also, this week there will be no Mass on Wednesday morning.

FSSP sets August 1 day of prayer for persecuted Middle East Christians

Readers of this blog are encouraged to follow the initiative of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter in setting aside this coming Friday, August 1, as a day of prayer and penance on behalf of the suffering and persecuted Christians of Iraq, Syria, and elsewhere in the Middle East.

Via the blog sidebar of (non-FSSP) Father John Zuhlsdorf, here is a prayer for the suffering Church suitable for offering on August 1 or any time:

Grant unto thy Church, we beseech Thee, O merciful God, that She, being gathered together by the Holy Ghost, may be in no wise troubled by attack from Her foes. O God, who by sin art offended and by penance pacified, mercifully regard the prayers of Thy people making supplication unto Thee, and turn away the scourges of Thine anger which we deserve for our sins. Almighty and Everlasting God, in whose Hand are the power and the government of every realm: look down upon and help the Christian people that the heathen nations who trust in the fierceness of their own might may be crushed by the power of Thine Arm. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.  Amen.

Msgr. Smith to offer Sunday TLM at Silver Spring

A Missa Cantata with schola will be offered July 27 at the Traditional Latin Mass Congregation of Silver Spring, Maryland.  Monsignor K. Bartholomew Smith, pastor of St. Bernadette parish in Four Corners, will be the celebrant of the Mass of the Seventh Sunday after Pentecost.

Holy Mass will begin at 8:00 am.  Confessions will be heard from 7:30 to 7:55 am.

Silver Spring TLM Congregation meets at the Historic Church of St. John the Evangelist, 9700 Rosensteel Avenue, Forest Glen.

Paving to affect access to Saturday TLM at Annandale St. Michael

Because of pavement resealing, the St. Michael’s Lane entrance to the parking lot of St. Michael Church from Ravensworth Road in Annandale will be closed to visitors Saturday morning, July 26.

Attendees at 7:00 am Low Mass may enter the parking lot via Pine Road (off Backlick Road). Alternatively, the parking lot may be entered via Carmine Street, which is the next street off Ravensworth Road on the left past St. Michael’s Lane (coming from the direction of Little River Turnpike); after turning onto Carmine Street, make the next left turn to enter the church parking lot.

“My Peace” author Eden to speak July 31 at CIC

Theologian and journalist Dawn Eden will speak this Thursday, July 31, at the Catholic Information Center, 1501 K Street NW, Washington, on the topic “Healing the Memory: What St. Ignatius Loyola and Pope Francis Can Teach Us.” The program begins at 6:00 pm and is free of charge.

Dawn Eden, who holds a Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception, is the author of the books My Peace I Give You: Healing Sexual Wounds with the Help of the Saints (2012) and The Thrill of the Chaste: Finding Fulfillment While Keeping Your Clothes On (2006).  She is a frequent speaker on the topics of sexual abuse recovery and Catholic spirituality, and writes on these and other subjects in her blog, The Dawn Patrol.

Annandale St. Michael announces Wednesday, Saturday TLM

The Traditional Latin Mass (Extraordinary Form) will be offered on Wednesday and Saturday of this week at St. Michael Church, 7401 St. Michael’s Lane, Annandale, by parochial vicar Rev. Fr. Richard Carr.

On Wednesday, July 23, Low Mass of the Feast of St. Apollinaris of Ravenna, Bishop and Martyr, will be offered at 7:15 am.  (Please note the new 7:15 am start time for Masses on weekdays other than Saturdays.) On Saturday, July 26, Low Mass of the Feast of St. Anne, Mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary, will be offered at 7:00 am.

A prayer for the oppressed Church

The immolation of the Catholic communities of Mosul and elsewhere in the Near East seem to have greatly muted the chronic pleas by self-satisfied Western “liberals” on behalf of those they choose to recognize as victimized at any particular time.  Nonetheless, the men, women, and children now undergoing these genocidal atrocities demand both our spiritual and corporal efforts to relieve their suffering.

Toward the former end, we may offer the following prayer.  Familiar to those who frequently assist at the Traditional Latin Mass after which it is customarily offered, it is entirely suitable for recitation by all at any time.

O God, our refuge and our strength, look down with mercy upon the people who cry to Thee; and by the intercession of the glorious and immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Saint Joseph her spouse, of the blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and of all the saints, in Thy mercy and goodness hear our prayers for the conversion of sinners, and for the liberty and exaltation of the Holy Mother the Church. Through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Fr. Logan to offer Sunday TLM at Silver Spring

A Low Mass will be offered July 20 at the Traditional Latin Mass Congregation of Silver Spring, Maryland.  Rev. Aidan Logan, O.C.S.O., vocation director of the Archdiocese of the Military Services, will be the celebrant of the Mass of the Sixth Sunday after Pentecost.

Holy Mass will begin at 8:00 am.  Confessions will be heard from 7:30 to 7:55 am.

The Traditional Latin Mass (Extraordinary Form) will be offered at 7:00 am on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday mornings of this week at St. Michael Church, 7401 St. Michael’s Lane, Annandale, by parochial vicar Rev. Fr. Richard Carr.

The feast of St. Henry II will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 15.  Our Lady of Mount Carmel will be commemorated at the Mass of Wednesday, July 16, while the Mass of Saturday, July 19, will be that of the feast of St. Vincent de Paul.

These Masses have been added to our seven-day schedule.
