CPT® 2015 Developer's Tool Kit (CPT DTK) is a significant enhancement to the Enhanced CPT Data File, allowing greater computer operability and support of the evolving needs of health information technology.

CPT DTK augments CPT® Data File (see 2015 edition) and the CPT® Enhanced Data File with the following three main files: type, property, and relationship. The CPT DTK introduces attributes and relationships based on CPT code characteristics (e.g., anatomic site, method, and device).

Files specific to CPT DTK include:

  • Type file—provides a succinct representation of the types of information contained in the property and relationship files
  • Property file—includes a list of properties that may be associated with a concept identifier (i.e., code, heading, or subheading)
  • Relationship file—denotes the different relationships between concepts (i.e., code, heading, or subheading)
  • Change History file
  • Reference History file
  • Deleted file

Additional features included:

  • New for 2015! Coding Tips, Citations, Place of Service, HCPCS Level II Codes files
  • New for 2015! Added code book appendices D–K, M, O – additional files and/or integration into DTK data
  • Updated for 2015! Modifiers file—provides the complete list of CPT HCPCS Level I modifiers and their descriptions. The file has been updated to include the comprehensive listing of CMS HCPCS Level II modifiers and their descriptions
  • Short, Medium, and Long Descriptor files
  • Consumer Friendly Descriptor file—translates each official code CPT descriptor into language that is easily understood by the average patient and caregiver
  • Clinician Descriptor file—describes clearly and specifically the procedure or service performed by a physician or qualified health care provider at the point of care
  • Consumer Friendly and Clinician Descriptors support the objectives of the Meaningful Use Stage 2 proposed rule.
  • Changes file—supports maintenance and history tracking of long descriptors; identifies annual changes (i.e., additions, deletions, and revisions) occurring at the code level or within the descriptor, section heading, or instructional information (e.g., guidelines, parentheticals, and cross-references)
  • Section Heading file—supports maintenance and history tracking of section heading descriptors
  • Hierarchy file—provides the hierarchical location (section/subsection) of CPT codes and section headings
  • Designations file—includes such designations as add-on code, modifier exemptions, FDA approval pending, and moderate (conscious) sedation
  • Add-on options for 2015! ICD-9-CM 2014 Vol. 1 & 3; ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS Data Files including the general equivalency mappings (GEMs) of ICD-9 to ICD-10 codes; Appendix C from code book (Clinical Examples); Evaluation and Management Tables (Premium)
