Stencil Crush Tuesday™ 1-31

img_8716

Hi Friends and welcome to another week of Stencil Crush Tuesday™.  This week when I started out I didn’t even have a slight idea in mind what I was going to create.  I of course had the stencils in front of me that I have been crushing on and had planned to use but this time not even a slight idea.  I pulled out a few stamps that I thought I might like to use as well and put them on the table in front of me.  Since my mind was completely blank as to what I would create I decided to use a gelli print I had in my stash to at least give me some direction with color – something to start with.  I enjoyed using some stamps that I haven’t used much and added some fun texture in a different way than the usual with a stencil and modeling paste.  So grab that coffee and lets get to it!

here are the links to the stencils used in today’s video:

Jessica Sporn Designs – Hearts Flowers and More (although this was not really part of the crush it was the background I used so want to be sure you can find it as it’s an amazingly beautiful stencil !!)

Terri Stegmiller – Heart and Grid Stencil

Carolyn Dube – Rembrandt’s Words Small Stencil

Here a few close ups and the final piece.

Yummy texture here:

I love how the Rembrandt’s Word Stencil just gives it a bit of a vintage look

Stencil Crush Tuesday 1/24/17

Hi Friends, I’m back with a new Stencil Crush Tuesday and this week I delve into creating your own embellishments out of scrap papers and using them on a project.

Wow it’s hard to believe that we are almost to the end of January.  Typically January seems like the longest month of the year and yet here we are in the last full week of the month.  This weeks project are some collaged art tags and I truly am trying to mix it up for all of you but Damn I’m just in love with these water color crayons and collage haha.  This weeks video does have a twist to it and I think you will like it but it’s a bit longer than my other videos so hang in there (I did try to edit out as much not needed “stuff” as possible to shorten it up).  So without further ado here is this weeks Stencil Crush Tuesday Video, I hope you enjoy!!

Links below on where you can find these gorgeous stencils and stamps.

Here are a few close ups to see the details on the tags and the little embellished circles.

Here are the links to the stencils and stamps used in today’s video:

Gigi Stencil, Fingal Flower & Leaf stencil, Butterfly Journeys, and Mary C. Nasser’s Stamps

These circles would be awesome for planners and for your art journals, you could run them though a sticker machine and turn them into stickers (put them on a piece of deli paper or waxed paper and have them ready to use).  Backing up to give you an idea of where the inspiration came for these, I was in Michael’s over the weekend (I went to get the new Jane Davenport watercolor markers and of course they were out) so walking around I saw all this new planner and art journal “stuff”.  Everything from paper, to washi tape to die cuts and stickers.  Well there were these gold seal stickers that just jumped out at me and I almost bought them but I refrained because I almost never use stickers after I buy them.  And I was like I could make some custom ones that I can use in my art.  And now that I have I want to make more lol, they are so easy and fun and just a relaxing and fun way to spend a few minutes creating when you don’t have tons of time.  They also help you use up your scraps so there is an added bonus at least to me, as I always have a HUGE bin of scraps that I just can’t toss because I always feel like it would be a waste and I just have to be more creative on ways to use them up.  So enjoy using up them scraps and creating your one of a kind embellishments.  If you do create some please post a link here in the comments so that I can see what fun creations you have made.  Thank you all for sharing your precious time with me!  Peace and Love to you all xxoo

Stencil Crush Tuesday 1-17-17

photo-jan-16-4-55-11-pm

Hi creative friends, I’m excited to share with you this weeks Stencil Crush Tuesday video.  A couple things I wanted to share with all of you first thank you so very much for all the kind comments on my videos and on my blog, it has truly meant a lot to me because when I create these videos I may have an idea in mind but not always.  Many times it’s just me loving certain stencils and playing to see what they can do, so you will see things like me deciding or changing my mind during the video – I try to edit out some of the decision making and such to keep it to a nice length to watch where you don’t have to commit to tons of time but some of it gets left because it’s me sharing not just these gorgeous stencils with you but my process of creating (which yeah can be a bit odd at times lol)

The stencil I’m crushing on this week just kinda “Popped” out at me the other day.  I was actually picking up my art table and putting away some stencils I had out and I hadn’t a clue what stencil or stencils were going to be featured this week when one fell out of the bag I was holding.  When I saw it I was like OMG I love this stencil – yes I hate to say that I have so many that some have not been used yet, some I forget about and so on.  So here was this beauty laying on my table begging to be used.  (back tracking a bit) my Hubby went in for surgery to repair a hernia Thursday very early morning so I knew that I would probably be stressed trying to get this video done when I hadn’t even thought about it when Sunday rolled around.  Having a few hours to myself while he took a nap I pulled out a sheet of water color paper got my camera out and started taping.  When I went to edit the video I was like what the heck is the name of this stencil – I knew it was one by MaryBeth Shaw but when I went to look for it on the StencilGirlProducts.com site I couldn’t find it.  I went to look at the numbers on it that code it for easy look up and WAAAAA it’s a StencilGirl Club Stencil.  Yup that’s right this baby is an exclusive – so you can get this stencil still but you have to join the club to do so – honestly it’s so worth it (an no one is paying me or telling me to say this it’s strictly my opinion) I love StencilGirl Club.  You get exclusive videos by the artists each month as well as the 3 monthly stencils and access to the private FB group and now the opportunity to be a part of their Pintrest Board where you can pin your StencilGirl Club art.  So here is the link if you want to check it out and this weeks STENCIL CRUSH is Stencil:  SC 04-2016 (from April of 2016).

So I have been long winded here on this post so lets get to the video 🙂

here is the completed art journal page

Thanks so much for joining me today and for taking time out of your busy schedule to stop by my blog and share some creative time with me.  I will be back next Tuesday for another fabulous Stencil Crush.  Have an amazing day !!! xo – Sherry

Stencil Crush Tuesday 1-10-17

img_8538

Hi friends hope everyone has been enjoying the new year so far. I’m big into the New Year being a fresh start and having new found hopes and dreams for the new year. This year I am doing LifeBook and I am thoroughly enjoying it. Honestly I wish I could just it and watch the videos, drink coffee and make art uninterrupted. HA!  Ok well a girl can dream. I have yet to even finish week one and we are already into a week 2, oh well so it goes. I will share what I’ve done so far at the end of this post, But for now this brings be to my newest art journal page that I created for Stencil Crush Tuesdays™.  One of the things that LifeBook encourages us is to think about are things that we want to take with us into the new year. So I came up with 3 that have meaning and importance to me.

  1. Peace
  2. Love
  3. Courage

Well Peace I guess that goes without saying but I want to not only have peace for myself and by this I mean inner peace but I want to bring peace to others in some way throughout 2017.

Love well yeah who doesn’t want love, I want to remember to love everyone for who they are and to spread love to those especially that feel unloved and need love.

Courage well here is the one that gets to be a tricky challenge for me. I want to have courage to really let go of things I can’t control and to try new things. I have taken a leap of faith with just starting this new tutorial series, which had been holding off on for over a year. Doing something new and putting yourself out there to be judged and critiqued is scary and believe me it took a lot of courage to do it. So without further ado here is this weeks video. I hope you enjoy and it!!

This weeks stencil crush stencils are:  Vines, by Jane LaFazio, Tribal Men, by Desiree Habicht, and Framed #1, by Margaret Applin Click on any one of these to take you to the link to purchase on StencilGirl.com

Here are some detailed pictures of the completed art journal page. Honestly I could have kept doodling but to keep the video within a reasonable amount of time I had to stop lol. Doodles really add a lot of fun and flair to your art, I also feel it really gives it that personal touch.

So back to where I am in my Lifebook lessons – I have completed the warm up lesson pictured below

I started the main lesson.  Here are a few progress pictures. The collaged background before paint.

And after paint – yummy I love those drips – I almost don’t want to cover it up 🙂

And the rough sketch of my girl.

These girls are quite a processs to complete so she may not be done until the weekend :).

Hope everyone has an enjoyable week ahead and hope you are back with me next week for another Stencil Crush Tuesday!!

Stencil Crush Tuesdays

Hi Creative friends, I’m super excited to share with all of you my new inspirational videos series -ALL NEW for 2017 – Called Stencil Crush Tuesdays.  What in the world is that you might be saying???  Well it will be a weekly video tutorial (on Tuesdays of course ) featuring some of the stencils that I am currently “crushing on”. You know that I almost never even create a tag without using at least one stencil.  They have become my “go to” product / medium that well frankly I just can’t live without.  But there are soooooo many out there right?   StencilGirl has HUNDREDS out there and well this is kinda like a little intro to ones I love and use so you can decide …”yeah maybe that’s one that I need.”  Plus I want to share some of the multitude of ways that you can use stencils.  I will be using lots of different product mediums cause I’m kinda a product junkie (shhh don’t tell my hubby haha) . Each Tuesday you will get to view a fun tutorial that will be jam packed with techniques and tips and of course gorgeous stencils.  And the best part is I’m offering these all to you for free, yup you heard that right FREE :).

Most videos will be short (I will be trying to keep them under 20 mim) so you don’t have to carve out a lot of time to watch them.  So lets get started here is a peek at what you will find in this weeks video.  And be sure to subscribe to my YouTube Channel so you don’t miss and episode.

Here are a couple photos of the final tag.  I love the look of the died muslin for the ribbon because you can fray the edges as much as you like plus you can have any color your hearts desire because you make it.  I feel like with all the spools of ribbon I have, I still never have the right color!! :).

Thanks for stopping by to check out my tutorial today and I hop you will be back next Tuesday for some more Stencil Crush Fun!!

Happy New year -2016 Reflection

img_8461-1

Good Morning creative friends, wow here we are on New Years Eve 2016. I can attest that the older you get the quicker the years go by. For all of us the end of a year is a time for reflection. Many have had magnificent things happen in 2016 and many have had devistating things happen in our lives this year. When I sit back and think on things well it’s always the “big” thing of losing my dad that comes quickly to forefront it happened so fast we were all blind sided from it for sure. But if I really take a look at the year I have had sooo many amazing things that have happened as well. At the beginning of the year I had my first commissioned mural painting that I did for a Church’s healing room. What a blessing it was to be asked to do this !!

Even though it was extremely difficult to realize I was losing my mom to dimentia it was a blessing to find her a place at Keepsake Village here in Liverpool where she has amazing and loving staff they look after her everyday and I don’t have to worry quite as much.

I took a wonderful relaxing and much needed restoring vaca with my Hubby in August to Naples Florida

We have enjoyed the holiday season and have gotten out even in the cold weather to the Farmers Market and Walk though Lights on the lake.

My family did lose about beloved Budha Pug but I know in my heart she is no longer suffering.

I made so many new art friends this year it’s been sooo amazing !!

Learning that I would be a part of the Jessica Sporn Design Team not only was a huge honor and blessing , it came at a time when I needed this positive creative force and to feel part of a supportive group more than anything. I couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunity that Jessica has given me, and the fact that she believed in me enough to give me a chance has just meant the world to me !!

StencilGirl has honored me over and over again by sharing my art and I had my first guest artist post for them in April, still it was a huge shock and honor to have made their top Nine on Instagram with my art tags.

Another huge honor bestowed on me was my feature in Syracuse Women’s Magazine in February

I have also been honored and blessed to have been Facilitating the Art Therapy Group for IOP (Intensive Out Patient) at Ophelia’s Place now for almost a year and couple months ago got asked to Facilitate their support group as well in which we also do art. It has made a difference in my life working to make a difference in others. Which brings me to my Word for 2017

So my word for 2016 was Grow. And wow did I ever in more ways then I can even count!!  After pondering this years word I have selected not only a word but a phrase as well. My word is “Change” and my Phrase is “Make a Difference”. Which I will reference to my statement in the above paragraph. It means so much to me to be doing something on a local level and I have truly been blessed with these opportunities this year !!

May your 2017 be blessed with much love peace and happiness. Thank you for all of your love and support this past year it has meant so very much to me. When you think you don’t make a difference…think again because you so do. Right here in my life you make a difference!! When I have been at my low points your loving comments have brought be back up and you have made me feel loved. When I have been at my highs I want to share them with all of you and we have celebrated them together. So know in your heart when you spread kindness even on what may seem the smallest level it makes a difference. Peace , Love and Happiness to all and Happy New Year

Holiday Catch up and repurpose those Holiday Cards

photo-dec-27-8-57-16-pm

Hi friends I truly hope everyone has been having an amazing holiday season.  I know for myself it’s always a bit of ups and downs along the way, but such is life and we just have to go with the flow or we get too bogged down in the what could have should have been nonsense.

So a bit of a holiday catch up here.  Below are some of my favorite ornaments on my tree.  They are “our first Christmas together” that Dan and I got way back in 1999 , the second pic is the oldest ornament on the tree from when I was in Kindergarten it has my name on it in glitter and the year 1978 (yeah I know along time ago lol), next is a pug in a stocking that my sister gave me years ago and then one of my sons Christmas pictures when he was 5 (1998).  Most of my tree is made up of very special ornaments, given to me from others from the time I was small.

And here is a pic of our tree Christmas morningphoto-dec-25-8-40-51-am

Here are some holiday pics from time spent with my mom

And some pictures of our Holiday at home with my husband, son and his girlfriend

Okay so now what have I been up to creatively well, more than you might think.

How about a little tutorial on how to repurpose those holiday cards into some tags- yes I know I too am all Holidayed out but if we do this quick now before putting them away then you will have them for next year when the time rolls around and you will remember YEAH they are all done.   So I started out with some clothing tags that I would have normally just thrown away.

photo-dec-27-7-35-22-pm

And now take those holiday cards and some punches or if you don’t have any you can just wing it and cut out some of the pics in easy shape like squares.

photo-dec-26-8-31-41-pm

photo-dec-27-7-35-25-pm

Use some gesso and paint your tags and then select a color or 2 and paint your tags

photo-dec-27-7-56-35-pm

add some more paint / colors with stencils, I choose a star stencil from Stencil Girl and used some red and gold with it.

next you can just glue on some of your cut outs, add some accents with a black pen and some doodles with a white pen, even add some glitter if you want – glitter makes everything look great and holiday-ish 🙂

Don’t forget the backs you can paint them or glue them to some of the cards and have a picture on the back as well

and here are the finished tags and I actually have lots more cutouts I can use later on or next year.

photo-dec-27-9-02-51-pm

One more quick tip, so if you have some old calendars that you are going to just throw away STOP before you do lol.  I took one and cut it up for beautiful collage pieces and tags to use throughout the new year.  But they also make excellent art journals just gesso over then and bam you have a nice larger sized art journal.  They usually have thicker pages so they make a great choice for an art journal.

here are a bunch of the pieces I got out of just one of mine it was a sunflower one and I even cut out the names of the month in case I want to use those for a planner etc.

Just look at all these scrumptious pieces, this calendar had quotes at the bottom of each page so I cut those out as well or at least the ones I loved.

Thanks for letting me share with all of you hope everyone has an amazing evening xo

Holiday Tags- gift card holder and more

img_8323-1

Hi friends just a bit of a catch up on what I’ve been up to since my last post. I was trying to get in one more tutorial before the holiday but it’s probably not going to happen. Things just seem to going so quickly. So for those who follow me on FB I did a live video on this gift card holder that I made. It’s still on there if you want to check it out and it has the measurements you need for creating it.

As many of you know I’m a huge fan of the magazine Bella Grace. So this winter issue is as amazing as always.  Just look at all this winter / holiday inspiration. I love it !!

This story “Two February Coffees” was beyond touching. I have read it to my husband and the people at the support group I facilitate and each time it brings tears to my eyes.

Of course another one of my favorite past times is sipping some good coffee with my puggies sleeping near by.

After having to put done our oldest pug a few weeks ago it’s been a bit different at home and Pebbles is now my oldest baby she is 15. Budha who we just lost was 17. And let me tell you that the older they are does not make it easier 😦

So am a December baby (December 21) and this year I have to work on the evening of my birthday so last weekend we went out to dinner. Then took a walk downtown to see the big tree here are some pics of us as you can see we have lots of snow lol. The last pic is my son and his girlfriend

This is my husband and I before we left for dinner. I just love this man so very much. After 17 years he still make my heart skip a beat ❤️

Elias and Destany

This is where I started a tutorial and just didn’t keep going lol. So this tag I created I used Jessica Sporn’s Frames Stencil with Wendy Vecchi’s Gold embossing paste.

Here if the finished tag. The image came from a free printable from Astrid’s Artist Efforts. A little tip on making the gold more vintage looking. Once it’s dry use your ink blending tool or a sponge and go over it with some brown archival ink. It’s really gives it a beautiful vintage look.

Flowers are Prima. I added White distress stickles to the red flowers and some gold to the leaves and the green roses. Then added a bit of gold glitter to edges of the tag. Let it dry and the. Used the brown archival ink to go around the edges to again give it a vintage look. Go right I’ve the gold glitter bc again it will keep its shimmer but give it a vintage look.

Thanks for joining me today wishing all of you lots of love and peace in your day and week ❤️❤️❤️
