Goodbye, 2016!

And HELLO, 2017! I’ll spare you reflections on 2016, and thoughts on 2017, because it’s all rather convoluted, and really not what this blog is about, so instead share with y’all what I wore for New Year’s Eve! This year we opted to go to Knott’s Berry Farm for their New Year’s Eve celebrations, and it was a lovely evening and a swell way to ring in the New Year, despite the wee bit of rain earlier in the day, hence the rain boots!

And if you’re wondering why the hearse and cemetery as a choice of location for New Year’s Eve photos… It’s because I was so pleased to see 2016 die and be buried, and thought it fitting.

How did you celebrate ringing in 2017?

Christmas Day at Disneyland

Patrick and I went back to back with theme parks this Christmas, with Knott’s Berry Farm Christmas Eve and Disneyland Christmas Day. We enjoyed the beautiful sights and sounds of the holiday season throughout the park, from the garlands to the Dapper Dans, it was a beautiful sun filled Christmas Day.

I won’t lie, I kind of feel bad for all of the theme park spam lately! The holiday season is hectic, and Knott’s and Disneyland are easy to turn to between all of the fun delights they offer, as well as the familiar faces they have; I had several friends working Christmas Day at the Disneyland Resort, so it was nice to be able to wish them a “Merry Christmas”.

As we look to New Year’s festivities, there will likely be a wee bit more of the theme park spam. We are spending New Year’s Eve at Knott’s, followed by attending the Tower of Terror farewell party that is in the evening New Year’s Day! But as for 2017, Patrick and I have loads of (non-theme park) plans already! And I can’t wait to share those experiences with you!

Christmas Eve at Knott’s

For Christmas Eve this year, Patrick and I spent the day at Knott’s Berry Farm. I bought two Christmas themed string ties at Joyride (the menswear counterpart to my favorite vintage clothing store, Elsewhere Vintage) recently, and I’ll admit the other one is way cooler than this one, but I just couldn’t create the perfect ensemble for it. So I hope between now and next year I’ll find just the right shirt for it.

We spent part of the day interacting with some of Calico’s returning citizens from Ghost Town Alive, as well as hanging out with some of our friends who also chose to spend their Christmas Eve at Knott’s. To top off the day Patrick and I were selected to help with lighting the Christmas tree! So I must thank Mrs. Parnell, Kenny, and Mr. Knolls for one of the best Christmas gifts this year!

As for Christmas Day, we spent it at Disneyland, and I’ll share that with you next! I hope you all had a lovely holiday, whatever you celebrate!

Rogue One

I think by now it’s no secret that I’m a Star Wars fan. But even so, I wasn’t all that excited for Rogue One, which told the story of how the Rebels got their hands on the plans to the Death Star. I kind of felt it was unnecessary, but Patrick was really excited for it, and it gave me a good opportunity to get gussied up geek girl style.

A funny thing happened on the way to the cinema though, we decided at the last minute to go to the cinema at Downtown Disney, giving me the opportunity to shoot in Tomorrowland, as well as have a moment with Chewbacca.

I hope you’re all having a lovely week leading up to Christmas!

Windy Day in Joshua Tree

In my last post I mentioned Patrick and I spent a couple days out in Joshua Tree. Even though it was crazy windy out, we spent a day visiting the unique shops around Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley.

I came home with a few treasures before we called it a day, including a great 70s western skirt, a turquoise and mother of pearl bracelet, and a cute little brooch with ice skates.

We’ve been home for the last couple of days, and it’s back to working on last minute presents (I’ve procrastinated so much this year!) and some festivities including a few Christmas parties!

A Stroll Down Mane Street

No, that’s not a typo, I really did mean “mane” like a horse’s mane, because today I’m sharing some images from one of my favorite high desert locations, Pioneertown, and it really is Mane Street there.

Just after my family left from visiting for my grandmother’s services, Patrick’s mother came to visit for a week, and when she departed, he and I headed out for the high desert of Joshua Tree for a few nights for some much needed R&R. After checking in at my favorite place to relax, the Joshua Tree Inn, we headed up to Pioneertown for dinner at Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace.

Pioneertown was founded in 1946 a group of Hollywood personalities, but lead by cowboy actors Dick Curtis and Russell Hayden, who decided it was time for a permanent 1880s style town for filming the popular westerns of the day. It was the legend himself, Roy Rogers who broke ground for the first building on September 1, 1946. The town takes its name from western singing group, Sons of the Pioneers, which Rogers was a part of.

“Don’t you kind of love December”

The other day Patrick and I decided to go to Disneyland for brunch. I know it may seem really weird that my last post and this one involve Pat and I going to amusement parks for dining, but seriously, we have no food right now and it’s been pointless to go to grocery shopping, as we will be out of town later this week. It’s been on the cooler side lately so I was able to take one of my favorite sweater sets for a spin and wear one of my favorite Christmas Disney pin sets; Joe and Jenny from the animated short Once Upon a Wintertime.

I remember falling in love with the short as a child, as it was one of many delightful winter and Christmas themed shorts Disney put together on A Walt Disney Christmas, which I watched religiously on VHS during the holiday season, now if only they would release it on DVD! Once Upon a Wintertime however was originally released within the film Melody Time, which is thankfully available on DVD.

While I have other Once Upon a Wintertime pins, these ones in particular were hard to come by, as they are from a “Sweethearts” pin set that featured other Disney couples, and so finding someone who broke up the set is quite a rare thing. I purchased Jenny on eBay last year, and have been searching for Joe since, and I found him just a couple weeks ago! Just in time for Christmas at the park!

Do you have favorite cartoons or holiday movies you enjoy watching this time of year? What are some of them?
