I had the honor of working (a little bit) early in my career with Barbara Walters later in hers. She had to fight for every inch of respect and success she achieved. Respect, totally. RIP.

BREAKING: Barbara Walters, who shattered the glass ceiling and became a dominant force in an industry once dominated by men, has died. She was 93. abcn.ws/3VzLnn0

We've had exactly that nuanced debate. I know, because I moderated it. @IQ2US intelligencesquaredus.org/debate/forgive

Let's have a nuanced debate on student loans, the cost of college, personal responsibility, & structural inequality. But if you’re raging against “government bailouts,” you may want to do a little Googling. A long list of groups have demanded handouts. First up: Wall Street.

The moderator role requires re-definition. To be more than a host, timekeeper, question-asker. The role requires a referee, granted power to call fouls, penalize. Cut mics. Dock time from the rulebreaker. That's not taking sides. That's running the show. #PresidentialDebate

Donald Triplett, #autism's "first child" and the hero of our book and movie, died this morning, peacefully and surrounded by family. On a recent visit, we had a chance to tell him how many his story had inspired. He thanked us. But we thank him. Now, always.

Proof that Lester Holt is moderating well is that debate working without a lot of interruption by him. Well crafted questions will do that.

JFK assassination back in the news, and a small hurt wakes in my gut again, like it does every time. I know it's one of those tired "boomer" things, but something in America broke that day. I felt it as a kid. I felt it a coupla minutes ago.

"a true story of love, autism and the fight to belong..." It's the PBS premiere of the movie based on our book, IN A DIFFERENT KEY. December 13, 9/8c on PBS.

I've seen it reported that 57 million people tuned in to NPR at the height of the pandemic. Yet when we asked an @iq2us-style question -- Is Public Radio Still Relevant -- it turned into a helluva debate. With and arguing. Civilly.

I say this as moderator of more than 160 @iq2us debates. Conducting a 10-piece candidate-orchestra like the team is doing at #DemDebate right now is EXTREMELY difficult. This is not perfect, but it's not bad and could be so much worse. We're learning things.

Took a 20 year break from watching "It's A Wonderful Life." Until tonight. Longer than I remember but ahhh, boy, it still gets to me. Merry Christmas, everyone (you too, Clarence).

For many years, I kept on my resume that I covered a rather big deal Royal Wedding for ABC News. Then...it started to seem like a loooong time ago, so I dropped it. But still have the ABC pass!

in this god awful nasty time...that last question was about the best way imaginable to end this. That guy will be on ALL the morning shows.

Definitely getting this new book from , who's found a way to turn foreign policy and Vietman into a compelling narrative of an American whose contribution long unrecognized. Sounds like a smart movie there somewhere!

It's for other debater to say "False." Though the knowing moderator may want to prompt "Do you accept that answer?"

Thought puzzle: You're moderating & Clinton says FBI cleared her of *all* wrongdoing. You don't say, "False"? twitter.com/hughhewitt/sta
