    Fun fact: We were able to sustain nearly 500Gbps of write traffic into for many days during our big migration this year. S3 didn't even appear to notice. Nearly 10X improvement in just a few short years. Primary bottleneck? Network ingress.

    Fun fact: We were sustaining ~52Gbps cross-country out of yesterday (and ~52Gbps back in!). No probs. Currently ~25Gbps.

    … Seriously, I am seeing speeds I haven’t seen in my 15 years on Flickr. There are some hiccups (Camera Roll is on hiatus), and the downtime was longer than expected, but migrating billions of images is a mammoth task. My hat’s off to and team.

    After finally moving away from Yahoo’s servers, is back online and it’s crazy fast. Try loading very large original image files, for example. Boom!

    99% of 50% of the problem can be solved with $$$ 20% of the time and the remaining 23% is migrating Flickr from a highly custom Yahoo data center to AWS while maintaining two prod copies of *all of* . If there is a runbook for this, I did not get a copy 😅

    Remember... how Google said it would be impossible to give/sell Reader to an external party due to all of the migration work required and dependencies it had? This is like that but at >1000x the size! Exciting times.
