The art and ramblings of a disillusioned idealist. I'm a digital artist, graphic novelist, and UC Berkeley grad with a focus on environmentalism and cyber activism. I've illustrated and authored numerous graphic novels and plushed a few books. I'm currently working on the Axent Wear cat ear headphones that I designed. When I'm not drawing away or dealing with the unpleasant business side of running a headphones company, I enjoy sculpting, hiking, and experimenting with aquaponics. |

New wip of glass violin drawing
More comics related wip drawing coming up as well!
Finally back from AX! I'm excited to share a sneakpeak of the first full environment render paint over of my rebooted Knite comic. My team and I have been working for over a year on this project and the models are finally ready
I'm really excited to share the results with everyone soon. This is actually just a small cropped version of the full image. I'll be updating the rest and more teasers soon!Thank you all for the support about the FLCL headphone issues (which you can read about here www.instagram.com/p/BWEtZFaFue… ) Luckily, the president of Production I.G. reached out to me and kindly offered to credit me for using the designs. I'm happy to see a resolution to all this
It's time for the craziest con of the year! And we finally got wall scrolls! (still working on that art book) I wasn't fast enough to get 2 tables this year so all these will somehow have to fit on one table lol. Come find me in the Artist Alley at table K21!
After AX I'll finally have time to make art again. I'm so ready! QuQ
A Moment Alone
So busy preparing for AX (find me in the artist alley at table K21), no time to draw Q_Q I'll be starting up Fisheye Placebo and Knite again once I get back. All the models for season one of Knite is finally complete. Now my team is just tweaking the renders and figuring out the best work flow. I'll post some teasers soon!
This quick doodle of Frey was just done by hand. I miss drawing.

Been too busy with preparing for AX and a bunch of other projects to draw much. Here's a speedpaint doodled to tie myself over. I've been missing the feeling of drawing so much Q_Q
Finally got giant wall scrolls for sale! Lol we had a lot of trouble figuring out how to display them all and in the end couldn't fit everything.
Find me at Hydra comic con at the Santa Clara convention center this weekend!
First time visiting Texas!!!!
I'm so excited!I love meeting fans and new friends at cons, but hahaha wow I don't think my con schedule has ever been so full before. I'll be at A-Kon at AA table 2201, and on the same weekend, my long time friend Kiba will be tabling for me at Anime Next in the dealer's room booth 405.
After A-Kon and and Anime Next, I'll also be at Anime Expo, Otakon, and some small local ones. At least I'll have a break after Anime Expo for a month to start working on my comics again QuQ

Between all the conventions and being sick, I hardly had time to test out my new laser cutter. I'm feeling a bit better from Fanime's con flu, so I squeezed in some time to design a few tests in preparation for my side projects. I couldn't find the right color of acrylic so these 2 are too light or too dark. With Akon and Anime Next coming up next weekend, I'll have to put these on hold until some other time.

A close up of my last drawing, Storm Inside. In other news, I got 3 more cons coming up, Anime Next, Akon, and Anime Expo. After that, I'll finally have some time to start making Fisheye Placebo and Knite. The 3D models are 99% done at this point. Just need some final touch ups before we begin production

But really. I remember reading your comics when I was younger and I was so excited because I didn't even know what DA was. Agh such pretty art.

Hi Yuumei.
I know you probably won't have time to read my comment, but I want you to know.
I found you when I was a little kid. I didn't have an account back then. I loved your art because of how pretty it looks. Now, coming back as a teenager, your art really inspires me to keep drawing despite everything going on around me. Your art sparks a certain feeling in me that just helps me ignore the naysayers and keep drawing.
I know you probably won't read this, but thank you.

Wow, Did you know the new FLCL will be using your headphones? did you know about the new season in advance?
Did you know that those headphones are sold by numerous companies and isn't a copyrighted design? Did you know that there are hundreds of artists drawing that same generic cat ear headphone set that isn't original to this artist?
It actually does belong to Yuumei (I was a backer). They became very popular so it makes sense that they're referenced everywhere but that still isn't fair without giving proper credit.
I actually discovered after i made the comment that this specific design was yuumeis, but my point still stands that the design used in the teaser isn't the same design. its a generic design that pretty much everyone draws and many companies sell different versions of. no credit is needed from that teaser because its generic and not yuuneis design.
Haven't been on DA for... ever. Just got back on last night to see the Net Neutrality Notification.
I immediately thought of Fish Eye Placebo.
Create Art to Fight for Net Neutrality
DeviantArt is teaming up with Battle For The Net, the campaign to fight for net neutrality. We need weaponized artworks to drive home the message.
July 12th will be a day of coordinated grassroots efforts across the net to bring attention to the shadowy efforts of powerful cable industry forces to do away with net neutrality — a rule that protects open and equal access to the net by all publishers. We will join alongside sites like Reddit, Twitter, Amazon, Vimeo, Netflix, Soundcloud, and many others in activating our memberships to stand together for net neutrality.
We’re asking deviants to create art that other deviants and Internet warriors can share on July 12th. Your art may also be selected to be distributed far and wide by the official Battle For The Net campaign. Make your voice heard through your art!
