Alumni Events

Dear Alumni, I hope you had a great summer. It’s hard to believe that it is already Elul and that Rosh HaShana is just around the corner. As we approach the Yamim Noraim, many vivid memories come to mind: the beautiful melodies of Rav Ari’s and Rav Willig’s davening, the intense feelings and desire to grow, and, of course, the excitement of auctioning off aliyahs for hours of learning (770!). I want to take this opportunity to remind you that as always, your home in Israel, Reishit, is open, for you to join us for Rosh Hashannah, Yom Kippur, and Succos break. In order for us to make your stay here more organized and enjoyable, please contact me with the dates that you are planning on joining us at [email protected] . This information will help us prepare the best possible accommodations for you for seating, sleeping, and eating. In addition, it will help us better prepare for special events that we will be adding this year. Wishing everyone a kesiva v’chasimah tovah. Rav Yosef Bronfeld ______________________________________________________________________________________ ,Dear Alumni Many of you are now in the process of studying for finals and anticipating your winter break. We have already had the pleasure of seeing some familiar faces of visiting alumni around Reishit this year, and we look forward to seeing many more. One of the highlights of each year in Yeshiva is the Yeshiva/college winter break, when we are privileged to see and catch up with many alumni. Often, the alumni end up making a very big impact on the students who are actually in Reishit, and the whole Yeshiva is strengthened as a result.
We are in the process of putting together a special alumni schedule for all of the visiting alumni who are coming for winter break. We are planning various shiurim, exciting trips, and meaningful Shabbosim. In order for us to plan appropriately, it would be extremely helpful if those guys who are planning to be here could contact me, letting me know which days you will be in Reishit.
Looking forward to seeing you soon! _______________________________________________________________________________________ Dear Parents and Alumni, For the past several years, we have been leading an unforgettable and inspiring journey for our students and alumni to experience the majesty and witness the annihilation of centuries of vibrant Jewish life in Poland. Many students who have participated said that this trip is definitely a highlight of their year at yeshiva. We are excited that this year’s excursion to two countries, Poland and the Czech Republic, will be departing for Warsaw on Sunday, March 26, 2017 and returning to Israel on Monday, April 3. We’ve carefully crafted an amazing, jam-packed itinerary studying and celebrating Jewish life in Eastern Europe. We’ll be visiting hauntingly beautiful ancient shuls, the hallowed resting places of brilliant scholars whose ideas we regularly study, and legendary Jewish communities of yesteryear. Of course, we will also get an in-depth, first-hand look at the horrors of the Shoah together, and will b’ezrat Hashem emerge more informed, inspired, and loyal to our Torah and our People. Running our own trip has numerous obvious educational, pedagogic and logistic benefits, not least of which is the reduced price of $2277 – significantly less than in previous years. The cost of the tour is all-inclusive:
Logistic arrangements are handled by Shorashim/Diesenhause-Unitours, one of the largest and most experienced tour providers to Eastern Europe. Shorashim/Diesenhause-Unitours work with the Ministry of Education of the State of Israel to coordinate travel to Poland for over 5,000 Israeli students annually. For further information, please email [email protected]. ** Deadline for applications is January 1, 2017/ 3 Tevet 5777** In past years several fathers have accompanied us to Europe. Their attendance has always significantly enhanced our experience. Any fathers interested in attending and are up to our intense schedule, please email us at [email protected]. Attendance will be based on availability of space. We will notify you after the January 1st deadline. We look forward to your participation and to sharing this incredible experience together. Dear Alumni, Family, and Friends, We hope that you are doing well, and that you all had an enjoyable and meaningful Chanukah. Here in Yeshiva, Chanukah was truly beautiful and uplifting. Between the regular Torah learning, the carnival that we ran for orphaned children (generously sponsored by the Feldman family from Houston, Texas), the shiur games competition, and the bar-mitzvah celebration that was organized here for special needs bar-mitzvah boys, it was really a wonderful and inspirational chag for all. Now, as we are approaching the end of the fiscal year, we would like to take a moment to gently ask you to remember Reishit. Keep in mind that every alumnus who contributes $1,000+ annually will be recognized for his help on a beautiful Sarei HaAlafim board at the entrance to the Beis Medrash. On this board, which is reserved exclusively for alumni, there are special sections for those who contribute more per year. In other words, for as little as $85 per month, your name will be featured prominently in the Beis Medrash lobby, and will be seen by all visitors and grateful talmidim daily. Additionally, you will be entitled to two free tickets to the Reishit Dinner, special mention in the Scroll of Honor, and Rav Elie’s weekly mussar schmooze, among other benefits. You can click on link to make donations https://www.reishit.org/donations/ Additionally, we have recently introduced a new tzeddaka program, in which you will be able to gain a specific share in the learning and special atmosphere of the Yeshiva through your support. A sponsor may choose to dedicate a learning seder, a day or week of learning, a Shabbaton, sefarim, special programs and events, or more. This can be done in order to commemorate a yahrtzeit, gain a zechus for a refua shleima, express hakaras hatov for a family simcha, or for any other occasion you may wish to recognize. The sponsor of any given day or event has their name prominently displayed outside of the Beis Medrash. It is also displayed on our website and in the weekly email. You can click on link to see sponsorship opportunities https://www.reishit.org/donations/dedications.asp Thank you in advance for all of your help. Keep in mind that through your support, you are contributing to the future of Klal Yisoel. |

Dear Family & Friends,Our dear son Jeremy is about to complete his year at Yeshivat Reishit in Israel and we would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about his experience. At Reishit, Jeremy was immersed in a high level of Torah learning. More importantly, however, he was surrounded by extraordinary, intelligent and caring Rebbeim dedicated to instilling in their students the values of Ahavat Am Yisrael and Eretz Yisrael along with a commitment to family and personal goals. In addition, Jeremy forged meaningful friendships with many new people from different communities and backgrounds. Risa and I are certain that Jeremy will maintain close relationships with these Rebbeim and friends, which he will draw upon throughout his life.It is this combination of deep study in a loving and nurturing environment in Eretz Yisroel that has provided Jeremy with a strong foundation. It is a foundation that we know will help him navigate through the difficult challenges of our times. Unfortunately, we live in difficult times as we globally experience political, financial and spiritual crisis. That is why it is incumbent on all of us, as a community and as a nation, to help as many boys as possible benefit from Yeshivat Reishit just as our son Jeremy did. It is an experience that will protect our boys and our nation in the long run.Throughout our lives, Risa and I have been blessed to see our families support many worthy Jewish causes. However it is not until now that we truly understand the importance of supporting an institution like Reishit which is so much more than just another Yeshiva. Supporting Reishit truly represents an investment in the protection of our future as Jews. As such, Risa and I have accepted to be Reishit’s guests of honor at the annual Yeshivat Reishit scholarship dinner which will be held on Monday evening June 20th, 2011 at Terrace On The Park. Please understand that during these financially trying times we did not accept this honor lightly. However, we could not refuse because the need for Yeshivat Reishit in our community is so great. We hope that you will be inclined to join us in our important mission to “invest in our collective future” and that we will see you on the evening of June 20th.Thank you in advance for your friendship and your generous support.STUART MEHL______________Save the Date: This Thursday, December 16, at 8 PM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"Shechinta B'Galusa: The Ribbono Shel Olam in Exile."
I am happy to introduce a brand new shuir available to alumni and friends of Reishit. The shiur will take the form of an audio conference call. It will be based in Israel, but it will be available to be heard worldwide. All you need to do is call the number listed below and enter the access code. There is no charge for the shiur aside from the cost of a long distance phone call to Iowa. Rav Elie Marcus will be giving the inaugural shuir this Sunday, September 5, at 2:00 PM EST. The shiur is called, "Shechinta B'Galusa: The Ribbono Shel Olam in Exile." It will last for approximately fifteen minutes. It is advisable to call in about five minutes early (1:55 PM) in order to verify that your phone connection is working. You can even call earlier if you would like to play it safe. If you call too late, your call will not go through, as it would interrupt the shiur for everyone else.
Conference dial-in number: (712)-432-0075
Participant access code: 771818# We hope that this type of shiur will be an on-going program throughout the year, with a rotation from all of the Reishit Rabbeim. Please contact me by phone or by e-mail if you have any questions.

Dear Alumni,As you read this letter, many of you are in the process of taking finals and anticipating your winter break, and some of you are, in fact, already on vacation. We have already had the pleasure of seeing some familiar faces of visiting alumni around Reishit, and we look forward to seeing many more. One of the highlights of each year in Yeshiva is this time of year, when we are privileged to see and catch up with many alumni. Often, the alumni end up making a very big impact on the students who are actually in Reishit, and the whole Yeshiva is strengthened as a result.Obviously, you are invited and encouraged to visit Yeshiva at any time, and for any Shabbos. Specifically, in order to make the most out of the time that you are here, we are organizing a special alumni-focused Shabbaton in Reishit on the Shabbos of January 15. Many of the Rabbeim will be spending that Shabbos in Yeshiva, and it should be a very leibidic and inspiring Shabbos for all those involved. Therefore, as you are planning your schedules and making various Shabbos plans, please save this Shabbos for this amazing Shabbaton. Once you know that you will be attending, please e-mail me at [email protected] so that we will be able to make appropriate sleeping and eating arrangements.Looking forward to seeing you soon!Kol tuv,Rabbi Yosef Bronfeld---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------SAVE THE DATE!!

New Director of Alumni Affairs:

Rav Yosef Bronfeld
Over the past few years, I have had the zechus of being a Rebbe in Reishit and getting to know many of you. Teaching here has been a special opportunity which I’ve enjoyed immensely. Recently, I have been given the added privilege of working with you on a greater level, as the Director of Alumni Affairs. As I, myself, am a Reishit alumnus, my new involvement in this area is very exciting for me. I know from both sides of the fence how important it is to keep Rebbe-Talmid relationships vibrant, and to continue being connected to the Yeshiva as much as possible. I am genuinely interested in getting feedback about what Reishit can do for you. Please take advantage of this new opportunity, and contact me at [email protected] 646-259-3933 with whatever ideas you may have. With your help, the Reishit experience will last a lifetime!
