it's different for girls.

********

it's different for girls when their hearts get broke.
they can't tape it back together with a whiskey and coke.

*

i've been working through this thing surrounding the election,
so many women becoming upset over the outcome,
from the get-go with the male speaking to another male,
behind the scenes,
thinking no one can hear,
not realizing it was all recorded,
guy talk
they said.
talk of grabbing women in their holy sacred body regions.
talk of grabbing women and kissing them.
talk of grabbing women.

of course women became upset.

i am a survivor of having been grabbed by several male family members
when i was a mere child.
it all had me quite twisted for years.
it all had me making really bad choices for years.
and now, quite frankly, quite honestly,
i don't feel a need to perseverate or ruminate over the whole thing.
i simply mark certain men [and women!] and move on.

to help myself work through this all i have been listening
over and over
to a fairly new song by the title
it's different for girls.
please understand me here :: this song is not about the election
nor is it about women being grabbed and their person being violated.
the song is about broken hearts and how men deal with it.
the song is about broken hearts and how women deal with it.
yet the reason i love this song so much is that it speaks to the fact
girls are different from boys.
we think differently.
we emote differently.
and if that's what it took for girls to speak their minds,
to march and carry signs,
then,
more power to them.

after all,
it's different for girls.

this.

********

i told her how beautiful she is with her hair shaved off short.
she said it all started with going into retreat on solstice,
she couldn't afford to go anywhere
so she stayed home and held her own ceremony.
one thing led to another
and she cut off her hair and then shaved off the rest.
i've always felt something akin to her,
something kindred in us both.
i told her 'you are beautiful' and i meant it.
we also talked about injuries and aging,
how it seems to take so long to heal when we are older.
something about this knee thing,
being grateful for surgery performed by a pure soul surgeon.
every day i wake and say 'thank you.'
every day i find it easier to speak what's in my heart.
every day i find it easier to stay out of others' heads.
every day i find it easier to ask myself 'how do i feel?....what do i need?'
i remember the first time i was told 'you are an old soul.'
now i know what that truly means......

these cold dark days.

********

this ol' world keeps on turning.

some days, the temperatures are quite chilly, and others,
downright cold.

we stay busy here....no idle minds or bodies for us.

today feels to be a good day to cut and bake holiday cookies.

it's a good life.
