- - Hello everyone! I'm a student from NYC majoring in 2d animation. I'm in my sophomore year at my college, and currently I'm working on applying to Sheridan college in Canada, but I'm still unsure of whether I want to go there. Googling stuff about applying to sheridan and looking at the forums is actually how I discovered this website, and since it's a social network exclusively for animators/animation enthusiasts, I had to make an account! Here is some recent work I did, there's more on m...

Heyo! I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for 2017 applicants to Calarts! The community on here is amazing, and knowing your fellow applicants is great for peer porfolio critiques, advice, support, or just making friends! So, if you'd like to join the list, comment on this thread! I'll try to update it regularly. Best of Luck! Hi everyone, After looking on some great figure drawings here I was inspired to share my daily gesture drawings. This used to be one of the aspects of drawing I struggled with the most, so I went on a journey to master it. During that journey I quickly fell in love with act of capturing the life of the human figure on paper and nowadays gesture drawing is one of my favorite activities. For more of my work you can look here: http://www.swendly.com/gesture-drawing-demonstrations.html Enjoy...

anyone see Kubo yet? Looks to be an amazing movie. Heard great things but it's always a bummer when an animated film underperforms at the box office. I've been rooting for Laika since they started. I love what they're doing and the kinds of films they do. I wish they could just finally catch a break at the box office though. What does it say about consumers in general that the films Laika produces don't sell tickets? mario

Hi there folks! I'm wondering if it's a good idea to take the One-Year Illustration program at the New York Film Academy in LA to get used to the work, get the experience, and use it to fill up a portfolio to apply to CalArts the following year. I'm quite worried about this because I don't know of any Illustration alumni from that school, and if the experience from that One-Year program will even help. Hoping to get a response soon, thank you, and take care!
