This project is inspired by Swiss artist Paul Klee's (1879-1940) painting
'Senecio'
(1922). My grade ones are learning about Paul Klee this term as their first introduction to a bit of art history.
We started by recreating this famous painting by drawing a Klee style face in pencil. (They traced a paper plate to get a decent circle).
Students then used a roller to apply some orange paint to their paper.
Once dry, the children used chalk pastels to add more colour and texture to their portraits and finally outlined their drawing with a black marker.
My grade ones created these collages by gluing triangles of coloured paper together to build castles inspired by Paul Klee's (1879 -1940) 1928 painting 'The Castle and the Sun'. This proved to be much more difficult than I expected and I got pretty tired of cutting coloured paper into triangles but I love the results.
