If I recall correctly, this is the second time Trump has told American Jews that Israel or the Israeli government is "your" country. I care about Israel. Despite its best efforts to persuade me otherwise, I feel a special bond with it. But I'm American. This is my country.

Any time a Jew objects to loose talk of a "Judeo-Christian tradition" (that's actually just "Christian"), Christians respond in a way that makes *very* clear that Jews accepting our forcible assimilation into Christianity is the price Christians demand for not hating us.

I am beyond tired of the "we did that already" responses all over my feed. Yes, the barest possible Dem majority hinging on Manchin is doing much less than, say, a 55 seat majority would. The remedy for that is turning 50 seats into 55, not pouting about how nothing ever matters.

The vote to exclude Omar from the foreign affairs committee, nominally about antisemitism and "standing with the Jewish community", lost by 26-2 margin amongst Jewish House members. Goes to show just how irrelevant Jews are to those who purport to "stand with" us.

If someone is expressing anguish for Palestinians dying, or Israelis dying, it costs nothing to simply accept that anguish. One needn't jump in and say "well it's sad that Hamas sucks" or "until the occupation ends this is what's gonna happen." It costs nothing to just be human.

By and large, the story of non-Axis peoples letting in Jewish refugees during the Holocaust is "they tried their best not to". That's the American story, that's the British story, that's the Canadian story, that's the Arab Palestinian story. No one does well on this metric.

In case you're wondering what "non-religious" is doing, it's to suggest that these Jews don't count as real Jews and so it isn't antisemitic to hate them. This line has become extremely popular in the GOP as they've labored to explain why it's okay for them to loathe most Jews.

Virtually every JOC I've ever read has spoken of racism in the Jewish cmty and antisemitism in cmtys of color. Virtually every one has said that, in their exp, the former has affected them more than the latter. The Jewish cmty needs to start taking that testimony seriously.

PSA for Jews: If you (a) find the contemporary GOP to be, on the whole, terrifyingly authoritarian but (b) also really dislike Ilhan Omar, you are not "politically homeless". You're a Democrat who dislikes ~.5% of your caucus and needs to learn better self-soothing techniques.
