I probably should’ve mentioned this here a long time ago but I didn’t because I hate Tumblr - I’ve been hosting a weekly show for Red Bull Music Academy Radio wherein I play two hours of rap songs and say as little about them as they’ll let me. The show is called ALL THE RAPS and tapes out of our shop in Oakland. It’s not a podcast.
If you’re catch this post as I post it you can tune in right now at RBMARadio.com - Serg Dun from Stay Hatin is the guest but I muted all his #problematic comments - if not catch it next Friday and every week after that until the end of time 1-3 PM EST / 10 AM - Noon PST.

I don’t think trap rappers are making the best music right now. Young Thug and Future are making the best music right now. Chief Keef is always interesting. Pretty much everyone else who might fall under that umbrella I could do without. We are now five years removed from Flockaveli ffs, Trap as an aesthetic is the most tired thing happening in music. It’s basically dubstep at this point. And rapping about selling dope is not cool generally, except when it’s done in an especially clever or emotionally resonant way but neither of those things seem to happen much lately.
Up and comers need to stop filling ziploc baggies with baking soda and watching Youtube tutorials about hi hat rolls and instead try to make/say something original.
