What The What?

January 24, 2017 By Shane Vander Hart Leave a Comment

Ok, I know it has been like forever since I’ve blogged here. I found a good reason!

I’m traveling this week. I’m currently just outside Wichita, KS and my hotel has the most *adorable* little pillows.

Awwwwwww… It’s like they saw the local preschool that was closing had a good deal on their nappy time pillows. But at least I had four of these…. on a king size bed.

It inspired me to do an Instagram video, something I never do when just waking up.

I think this hotel said, "hey let's buy all of the nappy-time pillows from the local preschool that closed."

Seriously though… Quality Inn… you couldn’t have given me two real pillow instead of wee little pillows my head would roll off of the minute I move just a little?

Also, my travels today will take me from Wichita, KS where it will be 65 degrees later and sunny.

To Grand Island, NE that is currently under a winter weather advisory. At least I’ll get to see some sun today.

West Burlington, Iowa

I’m on the road in SE Iowa and I arrived in West Burlington, Iowa a short while ago. West Burlington, a town over 2900 located in Des Moines County (it is next to Burlington – hence the name West Burlington), has been given two marks of distinction in my book, neither of them good…

  1. On my last visit I had the worst, most vile cup of coffee I have ever had… EVER… I would have spit out the first sip had I not been traveling 65 mph down the highway in the rain.  If it were not raining I would have rolled down the window and spit it out.  I abstained from drinking the rest of the coffee.  I needed the caffeine, but my inner coffee-snob wouldn’t allow it.
  2. I just had my worst hotel experience.  The room was an overpriced dark cave with a screwy layout. It literally took the hotel 10 minutes to check me in and I was their only guest at the front desk at the time.  The desk’s light didn’t work at first… I figured out the light was on the same circuit as the switch by the door even though the desk was on the opposite side of the room which wasn’t switched on.  The internet didn’t work.  The room’s phone didn’t work when I tried to call the front desk.  I didn’t even bother to check the bed… I shudder to think.  On top of all that it cost about $70 more than the advertised price listed on my “About Me” app.  I checked out after an hour when my wife found a room at the Comfort Suites in Burlington which is much, much nicer and cost $40 less.

I know, First World problems, but still…

“The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man,” (Ecclesiastes 12:13, ESV).
