SCYP Redmond Spring 2016

The Sustainable City Year Program (SCYP) has partnered with the City of Redmond, Oregon for the 2015-2016 academic year. Learn more about our courses for Spring 2016 and the projects that students across a variety of disciplines at the University of Oregon will be engaging on throughout the term.

5th Annual SCYP Conference

The Educational Partnerships for Innovation in Communities Network (EPIC-N) is pleased to announce the 5th Annual Sustainable City Year Conference, taking place March 13-15, 2016 hosted by the Sage Project at San Diego State University. This conference is intended for university representatives, city officials, and organizational partners who are interested in adopting and adapting the University of Oregon's Sustainable City Year Program (SCYP) model.

2016 SCI Expert-in-Residence

SCI is a hub of research related to sustainable cities. To promote the continuous interchange of ideas, national experts working to translate sustainability ideas into practice take up residence on the Eugene or Portland campuses for three day sessions scheduled throughout the year. Our Expert-in-Residence for 2016 is Denny Zane, the Executive Director of Move LA and a former mayor of Santa Monica, CA.

SCYP Winter 2016 Final Presentations

Many SCYP classes presented their final work to the City of Redmond last week at the University of Oregon, the City of Redmond Public Works building, and Central Oregon Community College. Ren Thomas' Housing Policy class presented recommendations for updating the city's 2007 Affordable Housing Plan on Tuesday, March 8. Landcape Architecture students had their final review that same day, where they presented master plans for the Redmond Airport. On Thursday, March 10 Journalism students presented their strategic marketing plans regarding social media and downtown revitalization. 
SCI Co-Director Nico Larco publishes in the Journal of Urban Design

SCI Co-Director Nico Larco published an article titled "Sustainable Urban Design - A (Draft) Framework" in the Journal of Urban Design. This paper provides a road map for urban designers and researchers to understand the elements of sustainable urban design and how they are related. The article organizes these elements by overall theme and scale of project in order to identify areas of synergy among these disparate aspects.
Sustainable City Year program to partner with City of Redmond

More than 400 University of Oregon students to work on city projects during year

The Sustainable City Year Program is moving to Central Oregon, selecting Redmond for the 2015-16 academic year. University of Oregon students will work on over 20 projects with the City of Redmond during the year. The partnership will kick off in April when students from a bicycle transportation planning course tour the city to research existing infrastructure.
