Mermaid 03

Sometimes, I watercolor a few quarter sheets of watercolor paper (it’s kinda therapeutic to slop watercolors around randomly with no end in mind) and just stash ‘em for a rainy day (or when the mojo goes AWOL). This one made a perfect ocean-like background to just stamp the tail over in a mid-tone green. *fist pump* White emboss a greeting on a scrap strip of vellum and wrap it around.  Add some Clear NUVO drops.

BOOM!

Before I knew what was happening, this card came together in 5. *fist pump* And a sentiment that makes me and m’ fellow mermaids chuckle? WIN!!! Every.Single.Time. ;)

NO GRIT, NO PEARL.

Mermaid 01

For this one, I wanted to create a sort of “murky” underwater effect so I stamped the tail onto a white panel with some rich green pigment inks and then white embossed the sentiment onto a quarter sheet of vellum card stock.  After cutting the bottom edge with a wave die,  I trimmed the width of the vellum piece and adhered it to the white panel by scoring along the top edge and folding it over to secure it to the back side. By mounting this panel to a (white) base card, I could sandwich that vellum flap in between so there is no adhesive showing.    I die cut the shell from some watercolor paper and watercolored it quickly and then 3D mounted it.  I could have used one of the bubble die cuts from the set, but instead I used White NUVO Drops to simulate a pearl nestled inside the shell.

I debated adding more to this, but I loved it SO SO much just like this, I decided I better not mess with it. LOL!

My friend Ann is celebrating her wonderful store’s 30 (THIRTY!!!)  year anniversary! I couldn’t be happier because I think that is truly an amazing accomplishment in our industry!  I’m fortunate to be invited to teach there several times a year and it is such a wonderful store with a fantastic, super-nice staff that *knows* stamping!

Stop in this Saturday, July 15th, for all the fun they have planned and prepare for eye candy galore–the fantastic samples they always have displayed throughout the store always inspire me and get those creative juices flowing!
