Too Good To Be True? Chapter 1
It’s my first day of my freshmen year. New school, new town, new people. Intimidated can’t even begin to describe the feeling that I feel right now. Of course, on top of all of that, there was William. William messaged me a couple days before the first day of school asking if I was going to be going to Perking High School and if I was talking to someone already. Pretty straight forward for someone you’re just talking too. But, I know William…everyone knows William. He is a Junior. Plays basketball, and football too! Only problem is every girl in school talks to him so, how am I supposed to know if I’m special? Or am I just another freshman he’s going to “welcome” into the new school. Ugh I don’t know, my mom told me I should just be focused on meeting new friends from the surrounding towns but all I can think about is why he messaged me…
But more about school (yay L) I go to a Vocational High School, ya know where there’s all shops and you go through and see what you want to be when you grow up. I want to get into cosmetology. I love hair and makeup. I think I’ll be good at it too, mom says to “always keep my options open” but I’m sick of her always putting down what I say, what’s so bad if I want to be a cosmetologist? Then she won’t have to pay for a hair dresser anymore… I don’t get her sometimes. William is in Drafting. I wonder if that’s what he wants to be when he grows up or if his parents forced him into it. Maybe one day I’ll get to ask him that…or not.
The first day of school is always the most boring. I’m in high school now but yet I still have to stay in my assigned homeroom all day. How does that work? Isn’t this the place where I’m supposed to “find myself” and “have freedom”. I guess not, getting a locker with a combination lock right outside of my homeroom seems pretty “Middle School” too me. Today we get a list of shops that we go and visit with our homeroom, how embarrassing. Parading around as if we’re babies. It’s like they want to give the upperclassmen even more of a reason to make fun of us. Drafting isn’t on my list today so I guess that I’ll get more ready tomorrow for when I see William. Oh, yeah I forgot to mention, freshmen and juniors are in shop together and then sophomores and seniors. So, I might end up seeing William a lot. (hopefully)
The first day was actually boring, I stayed with my homeroom so I didn’t even get to meet any new people except at lunch but everyone just ended up staying with their homeroom anyways. I went off to find my friend Kate, she’s my best friend and knows all about William and I wanted to see if she went through Drafting yet.
I screamed waving to get Kate’s attention “Hey Kate”
“OMG! Lex, where have you been! I have been looking everywhere for you.”
“I just got in here my homeroom was late cause the HVAC teacher didn’t realize that the freshmen are all having lunch together today I guess normally we would go with everyone in HVAC”
“Lex…I saw William”
“Ok… and?” I was pretty confused as to why she was starting off our conversation like this in the middle of lunch she knew that I didn’t want everyone to know he messaged me.
“He came up to me and asked what homeroom you are in.”
“He did what??”
“I know, I know I’m so excited for you I just had to tell you!”
Butterflies instantly fluttered through my stomach. All these thoughts were running through my head; how did he know Kate was my best friend? How did he know that she even knew he was texting me? What if she didn’t know –
Kate grabbed my arm whispering “Lex, there’s Williams ex-girlfriend”
What a great way to be interrupted into my day dream right? Ugh. There she is, all pretty dressed in the best clothes, makeup, hair, from head to toe. Why does she always have to look so perfect and have the perfect body? I wonder why they broke up anyways.
Kate and I got interrupted by the lunch bell so back to touring the other shops I went. The rest of my first day went pretty boring just listened to all the shop teachers try and persuade us on why their shop is the perfect fit for us. I found my way to my bus, I know so embarrassing in high school still taking the bus home. I made my way to the back of the bus and just put my headphones on immediately only to look up and see William walking right towards me.
