KDa’s T-Site project is a campus-like complex for Tsutaya, a giant in Japan’s book, music, and movie retail market. Located in Daikanyama, an up-market but relaxed, low-rise Tokyo shopping district, it stands alongside a series of buildings designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Fumihiko Maki. Drawing on all KDa’s design skills – architecture, interior, furniture and product display – the project’s ambition is to define a new vision for the future of retailing.

Shonan T-SITE, the second bookstore project created by Klein Dytham architecture for Tsutaya, Japan’s leading media and retail company, opened in December 2014. It embodies a deepening of the new generation retail concept initially created by KDa for Daikanyama T-SITE, which opened in Tokyo in December 2011 and has since won a string of plaudits including World’s Best Shopping Centre at the World Architecture Festival and the 2013 Grand Prize at Design For Asia.

The Leaf chapel sits within the grounds of the Risonare hotel resort in Kobuchizawa, a refreshingly green setting with beautiful views to the southern Japanese Alps, Yatsugatake peaks and Mt. Fuji.

Kumamoto City, the Prefecture’s largest city, has a new bullet train station. Toyo Ito, the current Artpolis commissioner, oversaw the commissioning of several new buildings around the station, including entrance canopies on either side of the station designed by Ryue Nishizawa and by Mitsuhiko Sato. KDa’s project also formed part of the Kumamoto Artpolis program.

Brillare is a dining and party space, an addition to the Risonare wedding resort where the Leaf Chapel is located. As you approach the hotel lobby, you will come across a shiny cantilevered box surrounded by tall trees, and that reflective structure is Brillare.
