Last week I was given an opportunity to have a trial month for Weight Watchers Simple Start plan. (Let’s just get this out of the way now….I was given a free one-month subscription to try the new Simple Start plan and write about my experience. Though I was compensated for my time and commitment, all views, positive and negative are my own.) I jumped at the opportunity. Ten years ago, I wouldn’t have thought twice about doing something like this. I would have said “No, thank you” and been on my way. Ten years ago, I was finishing college, about to move out on my own and weighed a whopping 105 pounds.

In those 1o years, lots of life changes have happened. I got my first job, got married, had two children, moved to a new state, got a new job, supported my husband through a new job, and have bought a new house. Through all of this, a few extra pounds have decided that they were going to stay on my body and try as I might, I can’t get them to go away. I’ve tried eating better and exercising on my own, but I just can’t get the extra pounds to stay off, so when presented with this opportunity, I figured, what the heck, I’ve tried everything else, I might as well try this!
My main problem with dieting is that I have a massive sweet tooth. I love candy. I love cupcakes. I love cookies. I also love brownies. I have no willpower in a room that has any of these items. My sweet tooth is out of control.
The thing that I have really liked about counting points on Weight Watchers online is that I can still have some of the things that I enjoy. I can still have some of my sweets. I just use my Points Plus for the week in order to have them. I like the fact that I have a set amount of points for each day as well as “bonus points” for the week that you can use if you choose to, but you don’t have to use them!
This week has been full of challenges…some challenges that I haven’t won. It’s been a busy week. I’ve used way too many points on certain meals. I’ve made wrong choices when we have eaten out. And I have been plagued by a massive jar of jellybeans at work.
Yes, the jar of jellybeans has won many times.
In the end I still feel okay about my progress.

I’m just learning the system this week. I’m looking for the foods that are better choices for me and the Points Plus system allows me to do that. The other thing I have become more aware of this week is the time of day that I am feeling a bit more snacky than normal. By being more aware, I feel that I am going to be able to make better choices with eating in order to be more successful in getting these extra pounds off!
I’m excited to continue with this program as I feel that as I learn to be more aware of what I am eating, I will be much more healthy than I have been lately. I’m looking forward to that!
