Educate A Child (EAC), a programme of the Qatar based Education Above All Foundation (EAA), has signed a three year agreement with United World Schools (UWS), a UK registered charity, to provide quality primary education to over 33,000 out of school children across remote and marginalised communities in Cambodia, Myanmar and Nepal.

“When I joined this school, I could hardly read and write. Now I am the best in my class; I can even speak English. When I grow up I want to be a doctor and help all people who are sick or hurt,” says 12-year-old Hamdi.
The power of partnership is critical to our operational framework. We recognise that there are many organisations that are already very active in working to get, and keep children in quality primary education programmes, and have extensive knowledge about the challenges that out of school children face. EAC seeks partners to support the acceleration the identification, enrollment and completion of a quality primary education for a significant number of out of school children.

Based on international statistics, EAC has identified a number of priority countries where it supports partners’ efforts.
EAC is open to working with partners in these countries towards the enrollment of many more children, into quality education programmes.

Suhani*, a 12-year-old girl from rural Rajasthan, India, went to school regularly until a few years ago. She struggled with reading and writing and had no support to strengthen her abilities.

Marufa, a 14-year-old girl from the Korail slum in Dhaka, Bangladesh, is a class five student at Boubazar-1 BRAC Primary School on track to sit the Primary Education Completion Examination. Three years ago, Marufa was in class one and could neither read nor write. She was shy, nervous, and worried about school. Marufa did not participate in class and she disliked school rules and regulations.

Since Kenya introduced free primary education in 2003, enrolment rates have increased to 84 per cent. However, in some regions, where poverty levels and gender inequality are high, only 19 per cent of girls are enrolled in school.

With a clean face and uniform, seven-year-old Anjana Bano races ahead of her two older brothers as they head for school. On her way, she waves to her disabled mother, watching with pride from the hut her family calls home. This was not always the case.

In Cote d’Ivoire, the Norwegian Refugee Council’s (NRC) Bridging Tomorrow project and Educate A Child have trained 460 school directors in school management, child protection, and the necessity of educating children, especially young mothers. Its accelerated learning programme has enrolled 16,000 OOSC since 2013.
On average EAC invests US $100 to enable a child to fulfil its right to a quality primary education.
- 2012/2013: EAC enrolled over 500,000 Out of School Children and partners committed to enrol 1.5 Million.
- 2013/2014: EAC enrolled over 533,000 additional Out of School Children and enrolment commitments increased to 2 Million.
- 2014/2015: EAC enrolments exceeded 2.1 Million Out of School Children and partner enrolment commitments increased to more than 6 Million.
- 2015/2016: To date over 3.3 million are enrolled and EAC partners have committed to enrol more than 6.7 Million Out of School Children.
- 46 projects in 40 countries.
