When designers visualise a vegan chair, the molecules of materials that form the desired chair need to be examined to the extent beyond the surface that has been adopted. The choices we make in the design process, as well as consumers’ choice to buy a design, reflects the cultural values and beliefs of the participants.
Waste composition is influenced by many factors, such as level of economic development, cultural norms, geographical location, energy sources, and climate.Generally, low- and middle-income countries have a high percentage of organic matter in the urban waste stream, ranging from 40 to 85% of the total. Paper, plastic, glass, and metal fractions increase in the waste stream of middle- and high-income countries.
