The Department of Defense has enacted mobile policies that allow the warfighters to keep connected wherever they are. The two components of mobility are people, who want mobility, and data, which has to be mobile -- and this is called “point of execution” mobility.

Point of execution says what we really want to do is get the data right to the individual – whether they’re on the battlefront, whether they’re a medical technician or a data analyst – when they need the data to execute the mission. DoD also is working to make more applications and services mobile friendly while maintaining appropriate levels of security. We are looking for “secure-enough mobility.”

Mobility continues to transform how the Department of Defense (DoD) operates, connects, and supports its stakeholders – most significantly, through the use of commercial mobile solutions to provide mission-essential tools to our warfighters. DoD users are becoming increasingly empowered with the latest commercial smartphones, tablets, and apps.

The DoD Mobility Program Management Office (PMO) provides enterprise-level classified and secure unclassified mobile communications services that ensure interoperability, increased security, access to information, and reliable service to the warfighter anywhere at anytime.

Mobility is a key component of the goal to enable mission partners to perform their missions and connect to the Joint Information Environment (JIE) using any authorized device, anytime, anywhere in the world.
