I love this picture for the way it captures how things have been lately. A hint of spring here or there, but for the most part winter has still had us in its grip.
Two Thursdays in a row we had snow; the first round was seriously a blizzard - the morning after was the worst commute we've had all winter.
And yet somehow the wait for Spring has felt okay this year. One of us for sure has still been practically jumping for joy each time it snows.
I went sledding and made snow angels earlier this winter for the first time in years. And now in April we built our first family snowman. I remember that I made snowmen when I was a kid, but I don't actually remember the making part. I think I could use some practice... Papa made the bottom sphere and I helped Ada with the top two. We picked out sticks together and she picked the rocks for the face. While I was finishing up the face she ran inside, took off her boots so she wouldn't get the floor wet, went to the closet to find spare mittens and a hat for the snowman and I found her just as she was coming outside again as fast as she could to get them on the snowman. We put a ball of snow inside the hat to keep it on.
We've spent most of the start of spring indoors...

and Ada and I finally made a felty this week - "Babushka".
She only likes having her picture taken these days if she can be doing something silly...
Like this one - "Take a picture of my finger!!!" followed by a fit of giggling. Repeat.
The felty was quite fun; I'll have to do a post with more details about it. It was a great mama/daughter activity and we're definitely planning to make more.
I'll sign off with a couple pictures from Monday morning. I couldn't resist taking some pictures after an overnight snowfall that covered the yard with a couple inches of snow but left the roads and driveway clear. Strong bright sunshine and spring snow; pretty, and thankfully, temporary.
It sounds like this weekend Spring will truly arrive with temps finally reaching the 60s and maybe 70. I'll be out of town over the weekend but am looking forward to coming home to a greener lawn and getting outside to work in the garden a bit. Hoping it's not too wet and that I can plant peas and other spring veggies soon.
