Welcome back to our Positional Series, where this week you’ll find everything you need to know about the catching crop in 2017. Last year, we debuted our Early ADP Analysis feature, and it’s going to be continuing this year. For a refresher, I’ll be looking at the ADP data from NFBC leagues and searching for some trends based on last year. I imagine our audience is fairly split between 12- and 15-team leagues, but for the purposes of the tables below, the average round column reflects a 15-team draft. Examining pitchers who performed better or worse than expected in the W department, and what their 2017 fortunes might hold.
On Tuesday, George Bisselltook us through the landscape around the league in pitcher wins. The stat remains the most outdated statistic used in standard fantasy leagues, and the context dependency George notes makes it arguably the most frustrating as well. He also discusses the increase in bullpen specialization, and how its effect on starters’ workloads is making it much harder for rotation arms to pile up wins. With all of this in mind, let’s look at some players who won more games than we expected, and those who disappointed in the category.

Maintaining batting average success is difficult - find out how likely these 2016 contributors are to being counted on going forward.
On Monday, George Bissell took a look at the trends of batting average around the league. In it, he found that this antiquated stat has been trending downwards across the league, which makes sense given the rising strikeout totals. Then, on Tuesday, Mike Gianella examined the players that outperformed and underperformed expectations in this very fickle statistical category. Today, I’ll end out breakdown of AVG with some players who took a step forward in the statistic, and a couple who figure to be interesting cases as we look ahead to 2017.

Well, the regular season is over and with it goes the fantasy season. Hopefully you were able to take home a championship or two, and hopefully my advice didn’t cost you too badly in the standings. Like last year, I’m finishing things up with a review of all things closer. I’ll hand out a handful of totally subjective awards that are voted on by a one-man panel.
