Sofia Ahsanuddin currently serves as Executive Director of the MetaSUB International Consortium and works as a Research Associate at the New York University Tandon School of Engineering. As the Executive Director of MetaSUB, Sofia is leading an international research network dedicated to examining microbes in public mass transit systems in over 70 cities around the world. Sofia is a former TEDxCUNY Speaker, Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI-U) Commitment Maker, Rhodes Scholarship Finalist, and Macaulay Honors College Class of 2016 Commencement Speaker.

Valorie V. Aquino, MS is a PhD Candidate in Anthropology at the University of New Mexico. Conducting original research in archaeology and speleothem paleoclimate reconstructions, her work investigates the relationships between human societies and the environment and has been published in Science, Nature Geoscience, and Scientific Reports. Born in the Philippines, her family immigrated to the US when she was 6. Since that time, she has lived and worked in Ohio, California, Alaska, France, Canada, Belize, and Nicaragua.

Jonathan Berman, PhD graduated with a BS in biology from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and a PhD in physiology from SUNY Buffalo. He studies the molecular origins of hypertension using approaches spanning from whole-organism physiology to single molecule biophysics. He has a long history and interest in science activism and education, including judging science fairs, organizing campus groups as an undergraduate, giving talks on research ethics, and on cognitive biases and their effects on scientists, and MCing the unveiling of the world's largest periodic table of the elements.

Jonathan Berman
Teon Brooks, PhD a Tar Heel alum in psychology and linguistics, completed his doctorate in cognitive neuroscience at New York University as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. His research focused on understanding how the brain coordinates eye movements during reading. He is currently a Mozilla Science Fellow at Stanford University where he advocates for open science practices and works on developing open-source tools to allow fellow researchers to easily run and freely share their experiments.

Beka Economopoulos is the Founding Director of The Natural History Museum, an initiative that connects and empowers scientists, museums and communities to address critical environmental and social challenges. Beka has two decades of experience as a senior manager in the communications, education, and advocacy sectors. She was the Director of Strategy at Fission Strategy, supporting non-profits and foundations with online communication strategies. She is a co-founder of Not An Alternative, a collective that specializes in cultural strategies for social change. Named in The New York Times and ArtNet's "Best of Art in 2015" round-ups, the group's work has been widely exhibited in museums around the world.

Beka Economopoulos
Kate Gage has spent the last 8 years working in the Obama Administration on the intersection between technology and global challenges with a focus on innovation and global development. Most recently she worked in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy with the President’s Science Advisor and the Chief Technology Officer on the White House’s international science and technology priorities. Before that, she was on the founding team of the U.S. Global Development Lab at the U.S. Agency for International Development, which was created to lead the U.S. Government’s work to develop and scale technologies to address global development and humanitarian challenges. While at USAID she worked on the use of technology - specifically digital tools and connectivity efforts - during the Ebola crisis in West Africa and was part of the team to launch a number of Grand Challenges and agency initiatives. Starting in Iowa in 2007 and continuing through the 2008 election, she was on the National Advance Staff for Obama for America, and organized the Concert at the Lincoln Memorial on the eve of President Obama's Inauguration.

Kristen Gunther is a PhD Candidate studying ecosystem management and ecology; she also holds an MFA in creative writing. Her research focus is on developing techniques for effective communication of emerging science to audiences of ecosystem managers and policymakers. She is interested in communication as a means to strengthen relationships between scientists, agricultural producers, and other stakeholder groups. As a writer, she has worked extensively with mission-driven institutions to develop core identity and value language.

Kishore Hari is a science educator who specializes in producing innovative live science events. Currently, he’s the director of the Bay Area Science Festival, which is based out of the University of California, San Francisco. Hari hosts Mother Jones’s weekly science podcast Inquiring Minds and is the science correspondent for Adam Savage’s Tested.com. Kishore is a former chemist who previously founded an environmental services company that specialized in treatment and removal of mercury.

Sloane Henningsen is a graphic designer and brand manager for a real estate and hospitality company in Columbus, Ohio. She maintains and creates visual aspects, advertising, and collateral design for the company’s six brands. It is her belief that a message is only as good as the vessel in which it is received and that the presence of clean, purpose-driven design is vital to the success of any entity. Some of the most important people in her life are scientists, and she truly appreciates the power that science has improve our lives.

Caitlin Pharo is fresh off a stint serving as a Marshal Commander for the WMW, where she handled crowd control and management for the rally portion of the DC March. Before that she was the Organizing Operations Director for the 2016 Florida Democratic Coordinated Campaign, responsible for the logistical, procurement, and staffing needs of the Organizing Program. Before her time in Florida, she taught secondary mathematics in Baltimore City Public Schools, teaching students from 9th to 12th grades.

Courtnie Weber is a licensed attorney, and the Member Engagement Manager at WeWork. She's a Chicagoan in New York City, with a deep love for live music, sports, and craft beer. Courtnie studied Political Science & Industrial/Organizational Psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and then she studied law at Florida A&M University College of Law. Courtnie is the Media Coordinator for Asgard Radio, an up-and-coming Internet rock radio station, for which she is an amateur concert photographer as well. Courtnie also is a moderator on Reddit for several communities and the volunteer AMA Coordinator for the r/music community, which helps fulfill her love of live music. For all of these organizations, Courtnie helps manage the social media content across several platforms. Her passions outside of music include politics, Chicago sports, and figuring out how many IPAs she'll have to drink before she finds one she enjoys.

Rachael Holloway, PsyD is a clinical psychologist with expertise in behavioral medicine, trauma, and neuropsychology. She completed her graduate work at the California School of Professional Psychology at AIU, a program which was the recipient of the APA Suinn Minority Achievement Award for its diversity training and its rate of graduating diverse students. In her postdoctoral fellowship at VA San Diego Healthcare System/UCSD, she served on the diversity committee, completed formal diversity and social justice advocacy mentorships, and co-contributed diversity training materials to the UCSD Department of Psychiatry.

Joanna Segal-Spencer, MD, PhD is an endocrinologist and neuroscientist at the University of Michigan. Her scientific expertise is in behavioral endocrinology, and her research focuses on how severe medical illness can rewire the brain, leading to long-term changes in emotions and behavior. She has almost a decade of experience in leadership with the Endocrine Society, through which she has participated in advocacy efforts on behalf of the Society and the entire biomedical research community.

Ayana Elizabeth Johnson, PhD is a marine biologist, policy expert, conservation strategist, NYU adjunct professor, and Brooklyn native. She is founder and principal of Ocean Collectiv, a consulting firm that creates and amplifies solutions for a healthy ocean, while centering social justice. She earned a BA in Environmental Science and Public Policy at Harvard, worked on ocean policy at the EPA and NOAA, and was recently a resident at TED. She writes about how we can use the ocean without using it up on her National Geographic blog and @ayanaeliza.
