With more of the iPhone like up being OLED now, and Mojave having a lovely dark mode, something that’s of no benefit other than visual on LCD screens, it seems long overdue iOS having a dark mode too. Especially the Music app which is a big white panel with small text on it, the most wasteful interface for an OLED.
It’d show off album art better too as said in the WWDC “it shows off your content”.
As a developer, it seems one of the easier apps to dark mode too.
I had a great experience in my local Apple store today and I’m wondering if there is a way I can tell a boss or a higher up about my experience... like give praise to a specific employee? I know sometimes they send surveys asking about the experience in the store, but i haven’t received one and I want to make sure this person gets recognized for how awesome they were.
Guys im shocked, I was one of those people who came from android. And even back in 2012 google assistant was better then siri of last year. But its quite clear updates are happening and she’s getting better. Earlier this year, Siri would constantly get atleast one or two words wrong and frustatingly I would have to scrap the command.
Lately I have found it across the board to be better whether im using my iphone X, ipad pro, or Apple watch. Even with the aircoditioner blasting in my car Siri is getting my commands right. Im pumped. If this is the new standard and it keeps getting better Im going to be a happy camper.
Anyone else notice?
Do you think this would be possible and if so when would apple implement this? People say that they will never leave lightning for iPhones but they already ditched proprietary MagSafe for USB-C on Macs so I think iPhones are not far behind.
Ideally, MacBooks, iPhones, iPads, AirPods Case, Apple Watches use USB-C (on both ends) like the Macs do as the world moves to this universal standard. In addition to this, phones, watches, airpods basically already support the open Qi standard so we are on the right track there.
Wait, USB-C on watches? Yep- I think that this would be a welcome addition until 3-4 years down the line when Qi is actually ubiquitous- Coffee shops, Cars, office buildings.
Anyone would need to carry their 12 Watt power adapter for the ipad, phone, headphones (not just Airpods or beats but hopefully all big names such as bose as well) and their 60-90 Watt power adapter for their Mac or Surface or Chromebook along with two USB-C to USB-C cables (differing in length).
*Edit*
I forgot to mention Qi charing for Macs but I can envision 'wireless mats' being sold that are maybe 24"x24" that laptops can sit on charging the laptop as well as allowing space for your watch, phone, etc.
You can see the screenshot of both private and non-private browsing windows here. It is very difficult to make out a difference between the two. It seems the Safari team hasn't really considered this.
FYI, The window at the top is normal mode while the bottom is private browsing mode.
Seriously, Apple, why is there no "Report Concern" button easily findable on an app's page on the app store?
I downloaded a shitty app that tried to trick users into buying a $80 a week subscription with a pop up message the appeared when the app was first opened, stating something like "you need to keep your finger on the fingerprint reader for the app to work", immediately followed by a confirmation for the subscription.
There are a handful of 1 star reviews pointing this out, going back 6 months, but they aren't visible unless you go on a deep dive, because the app has a 4.4 star average rating, due to a ton of obviously fake (similar wording, vague praise that doesn't refer to any of the app's functionality, bizarre statements like "praise to the manufacturer for this wondrous tool").
The process of trying to report such a concern is so difficult to figure out, I imagine 90% of users in a similar situation would just give up. It also makes me concerned about the quality of Apple's review process.
I got 13 spam calls yesterday all from spoofed numbers if my area code. Anyway to block these?
Everything with apple requires WiFi such as updates, app downloads, etc. I don’t understand why there isn’t an option to run everything completely off cellular without the need for wifi.
To start, here is a test image: save it, make it full screen, go to a dark place and lower your brightness, then see if you experience brightness uniformity issues.
The day I got my XS I noticed that on lower brightness (below 25% usually), apps with gray backgrounds like Spotify, the clock app, and reddit in dark mode there was a weird gradient to the brightness. The right half of my screen was noticeably brighter and had a slight greenish tint. Saw a post about Apple Watch S4 users having the same issues but much more apparent. Looked into it and it was a big issue with the X at launch as well.
My device doesn’t seem nearly as bad as some of the examples online and I’m hesitant to go to an Apple store to try and get it exchanged because if it’s a big problem with early production units, I feel like I’ll get caught in a loop of having the same problem again. For others experiencing this, is a minor issue like mine even considered defective? Would you/are you getting your device exchanged?
Now that most have had their phones a week, what do you think about the XS and XS Max?
Just found this feature and thought I’d share.
When editing contacts to create custom ringtones and text tones, you can also select “Emergency Bypass; Emergency Bypass allows sounds and vibrations from this person even when Do Not Disturb is on.”
Right now applications like VS Code and Hyper.js don't use the new Mojave dark mode. For these specific applications, since they are already dark, manually setting them to use the dark mode makes them looks better. It removes that little gray line on the top of the window and makes context menus use the dark theme. See a comparison below.
To enable an application to use dark mode:
<key>CFBundleIdentifier</key> and right below that will be the string we're looking for. In the case of VS Code, it is <string>com.microsoft.VSCode</string>.com.microsoft.VSCode.defaults write com.microsoft.VSCode NSRequiresAquaSystemAppearance 0. Make sure to replace the string in the command with whatever application your setting.1 on the end of the command we entered before. So for example, defaults write com.microsoft.VSCode NSRequiresAquaSystemAppearance 0.
This is my take on the excellent Android Clock app feature of being able to dismiss an upcoming alarm early. This is great for instances when you eg. wake up before your alarm goes off and want to prevent it from going off while your in the shower etc. but don't want to completely turn it off so you don't forget to turn it on for the following day:
Well since I have Apple Music for privileges such as offline listening to music etc and while I’m listening, I feel somethings curious about a line. I would like to download the songs including the lyrics so that they are all the time available.
Okay it's not really an issue. I honestly don't know what to call it.
Anyway, I've been experiencing this thing wherein after I power up my late 2015 Macbook Air, after I login, the screen goes black for around 4 seconds then shows the Apple OS update screen (the one with the black background, Apple logo, and loading bar). Then the bar finishes loading and takes me to the desktop. Obviously this wasn't the case back in High Sierra. Anyone else experiencing this?
Does Apple keep separate stock for walk-in customers in the UK? I mean, I’ve been told that the Apple website/app and iStockNow does not show accurate stock levels as there’s separate stock reserved for walk-in customers?
I started using this recently on my Mac and would love to see the option to cycle through a photo album or the default wallpapers automatically with a timer.
Let me login to websites using keychain and FaceID like I can so effortlessly on iOS! It just works.
