    Agreed with everything but the last sentence; I generally see that as build/deploy automation. When they [sometimes] [seem to] mean testing, that causes me to pause and start asking questions. Fair enough - point taken.

    1) More and more, I'm seeing people referring not to testing, not to checking, not to "automated checking", not even to "test automation", but to "automation". They talk about their "automation strategy; no mention of testing at all. When I look or ask, they seem to MEAN testing.

    WRONG. Featurability should be a requirement for the testing you are doing. Every other activity support testing. Duh. Testing over all. After all, even the agile people call it Test-First. I INVENTED TEST FIRST.
