ICYMI yesterday, here’s my op-ed in on how foundations can prevent/mitigate harassment and bullies in the workplaces they fund, strengthening their sector. (No paywal on this link.)

Good grief, , your flood risk mapping tools are *terrible.* I clicked on links I thought would lead to maps displaying risk & source of risk & I got a vertical banner of your logo, a paid (terrible) map, and more websites designed in 2002. You need help. Talk to .

Reading this story— quaint vs quants in elections, I was reminded of a voter to voter letter writing campaign on the Dean campaign. I overheard a table of NH voters who received them. The letters made an impact. Tony, it turns out, was a Deaniac, too. The campaign lives on. :)

So proud of these kids from the area. Adults should take a page from their play book.

Ooooh. This could be crazy-helpful. Share with your organization’s leaders. (Or read if you ARE in management.)

...I’m taking money that should go to my living expenses and heading there anyway, in hopes of engaging in meaningful conversations in hallways or hosting small discussions prior to the summit. There’s work to do to make our industry safer, more inclusive, implementing solutions

...The work I do on this is entirely out of my own pocket. I’d asked for $400 for a discount flight to London and I’d pay for the rest of my travel. I’ve run conferences. I know how these budgets work. I thought asking if they had a need based fund was totally reasonable.

...Today, I heard back that since I requested any form of assistance in attending, they simply had to prioritize their time and didn’t respond. Again, I’m speaking about sexual assault and harassment prevention in our industry, I’m a survivor, this isn’t a paid job for me and...

I’m going to in London w/mixed feelings. Responded to call for speakers, applied to speak about reducing workplace abuse harassment with new tools & processes. Heard back, yes, they’d like me to speak & be on a podcast. I asked if ODI had need based travel stipends.

This really worries me. Are coding degrees the CDLs of the tech world? Temporary until the algorithms take over? Additionally, digital bootcamps are time and resource expensive. Free bootcamps still face the prestige cliff. And companies still hire from the same five colleges.

Anger and aggression sometimes seem to be protective because they bring energy to bear on a particular situation, but what needs to be acknowledged is that that energy is blind. It takes a calm mind to be able to consider things from different angles and points of view.
