    Pinto Basin Road is now open from Park Boulevard to the Cottonwood Visitor Center. The Cottonwood area is only accessible from the north and west entrances (near the towns of Joshua Tree & Twentynine Palms). Visitors cannot enter or exit the south entrance (off I-10).

    Pinto Basin Road, the only road through the park's South Entrance (off I-10) is still closed & in rough condition after last week's storm. This photo shows both the road damage & the large amount of sand & dirt that was moved onto the road by the storm.

    The Cottonwood area, including the campground and South Entrance, is closed. Keys Ranch Tours are canceled through the weekend for road assessment and maintenance.

    Dirt road conditions are always changing as sand blows & dirt erodes. drive slowly and safely & turn around instead of driving through a rough section that you are not sure your car can make it through. Thank you to our road crew for working so hard to repair our roads!

    Most dirt roads in the northern section of the park are now open including Geology Tour Road, Bighorn Pass Road, and Queen Valley Road. Dirt roads that are closed include: Black Eagle and Old Dale roads.

    Did someone say Night Sky Festival? This year the Night Sky Festival is run by our park partners, Sky's The Limit and JTNP Council for the Arts . The star party will be on November 10th as a ticketed event for the first time!

    The South Entrance and much of Pinto Basin Road remain closed due to storm damage. The Cottonwood area is closed and inaccessible, including the campground and nearby trails. Photos show staff working hard to clean up the picnic area at Cottonwood Campground!

    2/4 - I believe representation matters. Representation can be the difference between a young person deciding to pursue their dream or deciding to pursue a different path. I know how privileged I am to be a Mexican woman in science working for the National Park Service.

    1/4 - “I remember visiting my first national park only two years ago. It was at that visit that I knew I wanted to become a botanist and work for the Department of Interior. It was also on that trip that I remember feeling discouraged by the lack of Latinx in uniform.

    Please drive through the North Entrance today. All dirt roads and the South Entrance remain closed for major road repairs. The West Entrance is down to one lane and wait times may be long. Photos show more of the damage along Pinto Basin Road.

    Photos of Pinto Basin Road btwn Cottonwood Campground & I-10. This road & all dirt roads are currently closed. If you drive on Park Boulevard today, drive carefully & slowly as there are stretches of mud & sand. Turn around instead of driving through standing or flowing water.

    Update: most of Pinto Basin Road is closed, including the South Entrance to the park. All dirt roads are closed. Our roads crew is working hard to assess the damage, report the closures and improve road conditions.
